"if this is your first trip, I recommend staying at Del Rey"

this is absolutely TERRIBLE advice. Here's why: The del rey is a shit hole, and the noise is intolerable. If you are a frat boy, or a street person you might be able to sleep here.

If you like no cable, crappy rooms, rooms that are next to busy intersections, and your neighbors coked up viagra C*ck ramming some skank to the point of the headboard nearly ramming through the thin dry wall separating your rooms, then perhaps you may want to stay elsewhere.

Also, the chicas will RUSH RUSH RUSH you if you take them upstairs at del rey. WHy? Because they know they can WHAM get a quick nut and run back down to the bar to catch another dumb gringo who'll give her CIEN.

Guess what? There are no real reasons to stay at Del Rey when Amistad and a few other way nicer hotels are just mere blocks away.

Skirtchnbadguy,
I am beginning to agree with your point.

Black5569--Of course it's OK to stay at the Sleep Inn-Who's vacation is it? And a few folks who are particular-venue loyalists might give you some hard cheese but you'll find them easy to ignore. I recommend plugging in "Sleep Inn" into the Search function to get the range of opinions and possible pitfalls about the place, though. I can almost guarantee by your 2nd visit you'll see the merit in joing us as a paid VIP Member if only for the discounts and access to VIP-only Forums and such, but that's personal choice.

Sleep Inn = high chica fee. 'Nuff said.

I am glad this topic got bumped. This, along with Ace's Packing List and Orange's "Costa Rica for Dummies (TM)" are priceless for newbies.

Re: Hotel del Lay... Shit-hole. $10.00 per chica per room visit surcharge. Overpriced rooms which are below Red Roof, Motel 6 or other low-budget chains. Unless you pay $$$ for an outside balcony room, you're living in a dirty shoebox of a room.

There are better options, and many of these are much lower priced than the HDR. Big John needs to tighten up his act, although there will always be idiot mongers and first-timers who will want to stay at this dump.

The only good things I can say about the HDR:

1. Good staff (from my limited experience)

2. Poon available literally 24/7 in the Blue Marlin Bar on-site.

3. Excellent food (albeit expensive) at the 24-hour Del Mar Restaurant across the street (same owners as HDR).

Otherwise, there are certainly better options. IMHO - YMMV.

I agree. My first trip I stayed at HDR. Rooms are not the best but my eyes were focused on other things throughout the trip. I've booked my 2nd trip at HDR again. I think I will consider staying elsewhere on my third trip though.

Girls are hot at HDR but only have one complaint about them. I tried to keep my room really clean but without fail, every time I brought up a girl she made a complete mess of my room, especially the restroom. Water all over my bathroom floor after their shower and a few times even female urine sprayed on the toilet seat! What the EFFFF!!! :o

LOL, street person.
Actually my floor what very quiet. Seemed like I was the only person there. But downstairs, late afternoon, yeah, noisy as hell. The worst was the toxic exhaust fumes of buses and trucks coming into the bar area. Those fumes mixed with Chanel No. 5 is definitely a new one to me.

Let me update the Top Twenty Tips to caution that there is one report elsewhere of tourists being charged $50 for an unauthorized taxi ride into San Jose.

Took a blue (pirate) taxi from the airport on my first trip. The guy was cool except for the part when he asked me for my full name and passport number for his "receipt." I immediately told him to Phuck off and to turn up the radio cause I liked the song that was playing.
