Generally the casino action is kind of lame. The only gambling I'd do in CR is poker but that's about it.

The casinos in Costa Rica pretty much suck from a "house edge" perspective. There's a casino close to the Hotel Del Rey - I forget the name of it - but they have craps. This may be your best bet in San Jose which I know of if you just stuck with the pass line and took the full odds. They only offered single odds (meaning that if you bet 10000c on the pass line you could put another 10000c behind the line which would pay off at "true odds" -e.g., 2 to 1 on the point being a 4 or an 8, 3 to 2 on the point being a 9 or 5, and 6 to 5 on the point being a 6 or an eight). This isn't the greatest and still gives the house a .85% edge, but (outside of playing a true skiil game like no limit poker at the Corobici) it's the best I can think of in San Jose.

The poker offerings in both San Jose and Costa Rica in general are rather sparse. I was in Costa Rica last fall and the only place I found wherea regular game was spread was the Casino Corobici near La Sabana park. When I was there, they had only a couple tables of no limit holdem with a $50 minimum buy-in and blinds of $1 and $2. Fixed limit holdem does not appear popular in Costa Rica and I could not find any FL games in either San Jose or Jaco. The poker room at the Corobici didn't have tournaments the night I was there, but I did see some flyers indicating there might be one or two tourneys there a week (although I didn't get to play in them because they were being held on different nights than when I was there in SJ). The casino Crowne Plaza was rumored to have a poker room, but it was on the outskirts of town and I didn't make it out there. The place I described earlier around the Hotel Del Rey which had craps (I think it may have been the Colonial but I'm not sure) also had a poker room upstairs, but when I went up there it was dead . . . no players, no dealers, no nothing. I was advised the action really didn't start until later in the evening like around 9 pm. I got the impression that they only spread a game on the one or two nights of the week when the casino was the busiest. The Casino Morazan didn't have any poker nor did any of the ones in the downtown/business district. If you're a high roller with money to burn, I heard that Humberto ("El Tiburon") Brenes and his brothers (Alex & Erick, both of whom have won World Poker titles) occassionally play at the White House Hotel/Casino in the La Sabana area but I was told at the Corobici that the only game spread over there was a pot limit Omaha game with a $1,000 buy-in. I didn't make it over there to confirm what was available but I might check it out when I return this fall.

Bad NEWSSSS :? :? :? :? :? :(

my trip is canceled.

i had to cancel it because my sister is having a baby and unforchantly will need me to donate some Platletts to her from my blood. i am the only donor that can.

thus one of the circumstances around it is that i cannot donate blood if i go outside US to a country that has cases of Maleria hence Costa Rica

So i will see you guys in July!!!!!

The American Red Cross will only prohibit you from donating if you disclose that you visited Costa Rica. If you know you don't have malaria, as long as you don't actually divulge that you went to Central America you will be allowed to give blood. If you do mention this, you don't get a lifetime ban - just a one-year suspension. On the other hand, if you don't mind just postponing your trip until after your sister has her baby then you can take the moral high ground and still enjoy your trip later without lying.

thus i have to wait a month which is not a huge deal, just some extended time to observe the posts. read some more insight and dream lol

Of course they did. They own the Europa too. That's where they try to steer customers when their reservations are "lost".
