I've flown COPA 6 times and no complaints. The on-board service is great and the airline seems to stick to its schedule.

For the most part, they area fine airline, but I did have HORRIBLE baggage problems about 7 years ago. Their fleet is rather new, so that's nice.

I've flown Copa and their offshoot, AeroRepublica. Copa is closely aligned with Continental. Both Copa and AR are excellent from what I've seen. AR uses the Embraer 190, and excellent plane. I hope to use Copa again.

When I flew on COPA from LAX to SJO, there was a layover in Panama. The airport in Panama was really a duty free shopping mall disguised as an airport. If you have any purchases to make you may want to consider some serious shopping.

I found the counter people at LAX to be very accommodating; the flight was a red-eye so I wasn’t awake much and didn’t notice the service of the flight attendants. The hop from Panama to SJO was really short but the service was just fine.

I'm flying Copa from MIA to MDE in Sept...hoping they have some hot flight attendants like Taca.

Usually I fly Continental through Houston. But not long ago I flew Continental from though New Jersey Liberty (EWR) to SJO. The flight attendants were really hot and very friendly. I mentioned that they were unusually attractive unlike the Houston based flight crews.

The lead attendant said that they pride themselves on being attractive and fit. She emphasized that the EWR crews are much different than the HousTON girls.

Most likely IAH is a more desirable base than EWR so the more senior FA's bid that and the less senior, read that as younger fitter, are assigned to EWR. Who in their right mind would want to live in Newark, NJ?

Houston's a good airport, with great duty free prices on high end hooch. Stuff mostly seems to run on time out of there, and Continental is a decent airline. No comparison to Cathay or Singapore though.

Copa is pretty good, and now that I only travel with carry-on unless absolutely necessary I never have luggage problems. Cubana taught me the joys of that.

Copa and I are currently not on speaking terms, I used them from SJO to MDE. Despite doing web check in and printing the boarding pass, they double booked my seat on both the SJO-PTY and PTY-MDE flights. When I tried to get moved on the PTY-MDE flight they sent me (repeat, they sent me to another booth to have a replacement boarding pass done). Then I found out that the flight was full. But they did eventually find me a seat.

On the flight back from MDE-SJO, they simply cancelled the flight DESPITE sending me the frickin web check-in e-mail teh day before. So I stay up all night busting nuts, get to the airport for my 9:00 AM flight, they say whoops, sorry about that, how's 4:00 sound?

So I say I'll go back into the city to kill a few hours and as I mentioned in my trip report I had lunch with the former favorita, get back to the airport to be told I've been given my boarding passes and they have no idea where my carry on bags are (YGBSM!). I keep my cool and after 20 mins of farting around, they finally get me a manager. I explain they cancelled my first flight and DID NOT give me a boarding pass for the later flight and I ask very politely where the &^%$ my carry on bags are. After another 15 min delay, the bags are found with printed boarding passes that never touched my hands in another office.

I've advised Copa of all this and the only answer was, give us 25 working days to look into this. Copa is your only option from SJO. So I'm booked on them once more for September. Then going forward it's AC to BOG then Avianaca to MDE. I've changed planes in Miami before, would rather not again.

The on board staff on Copa however is great, friendly and every flight they've been very attractive. But they need to get the bugs ironed out on the web check in and cancelling a flight the day it leaves because of poor seat sales is bush.

Klockman was right COPA is notorious for overbooking. I was enroute to SJO waiting on the staff to close the door, when I noticed a gentlman standing over me asking why was I in his seat. On the way back to IAD from SJO I witnessed three other people dealing with the over booking. How difficult is it to assign seats. It was a mess.

The only plus is that the aircraft is new.
