Stayed @ Hotel Freebird for 2 nights. Stayed in the suite 2. All in all the hotel is very cool. Great location, close walking distance to high rent and low rent places. Also close walking distance to food, supermarket, and shopping if need be. It seemed to be very secure, with in room safe, lots of video cameras, security gates, ex ex. The room was very clean, modern, spacious, paddle fans, and a lot of amenities. Basically everything you would need on a vacation. Dennis the owner was on hand to answer any questions you may have about the area or hotel, very knowledgeable and comes in handy if you are new to the area. For the price I was very pleased with my experience, and will mostly likely stay there again when I return...

I might have to give the Freebird a re-think--I had thought it was entirely smoke-free, but see it's permitted in 2 rooms. I am careful to keep my addiction to nicotine away from the smoke-averse (not smoking in common areas where there's no breeze, etc.) but am glad it's allowed at all.

Suites 1 and 2 have their own bathrooms. Guests in rooms 3 thru 7 share two VERY NICE bathrooms. A little bit of a hassle, but these rooms are nice and quiet and priced accordingly. I'm a big fan of rooms 6 & 7 on the top floor: 2 floors up from the banos, but they have AC. Like all the other rooms, they also come with a refrigerator and beds with great mattresses. I'm now a big fan of the Feebird, and Dennis is a damn nice guy.

I have had a number of guests while staying at the Freebird and have never been required to check them in at the office. On a few occasions, I have even mentioned to Dennis, the owner, that I was planning on having a guest over that evening, and he never asked me to check them in. Dennis is about as monger-friendly as they come, and I really doubt he'd want you to wake him up at 2am to register a Del Rey hookup! I also severely doubt he would ever take the step of trying to collect $12 for an overnight guest, although I can't say this for sure, as I've never had a lady spend the entire night there with me.

I have the strong feeling these rules were written when Dennis first opened up. My take: if you act like an adult and don't disturb other guests, you don't have to worry about checking in ladies or paying any fees for overnight guests. I have had some great visits and discussions with Dennis, and he strikes me as a very "laissez-faire" type of guy and businessman. Interestingly, he has told me he only wants mongers as guests -- nobody else!
