There is lots of information here on learning Spanish, including links to various online resources.

Are there similar online resources for Portuguese that are either free or don't cost a fortune?

I found this older thread:
https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewto ... portuguese

One of my FWBs (friend with benefits) here is Brazilian, and I can't think of a better tutor :D But I need to do a little work on my own too.

There's plenty out there for free. Here's one I recently discovered: http://www.brazilianportuguesepod.com/rss.php They produce an audio lesson once or twice a week and offer more material to subscribers. Right now, they are up to 162 MP3 lessons.

I've also found links to a few applications and audio on torrent sites. It's just a matter of doing some searches. Look for links for Pimsleur, Rosetta Stone, Brazilian Portuguese Now! and Linkword. There is more out there if you look hard enough. There's also translation software that might help, I have found Systran, L&H Power Translator and LEC Power Translator. (LEC bought L&H and produced new software which I don't consider to be as useful. Both versions can be found)

Thanks for the links. I especially like the title of this segment although I don't think it will address my particular dreams and desires 8)

Just a quick update on learning a little Portuguese.

I am finding it really hard to keep Spanish and Portuguese straight in my head. So far I have not accidentally used Portuguese words with my Dominica friend and my Brasiliana friend knows that I speak some Spanish. I also know some of the other Romance languages but ever since I've started taking Spanish seriously, I have real trouble in using the other languages.

My question for you multi-lingual guys is how do you keep similar languages straight in your heads? Should I just focus on Spanish for now? Or will it all work out eventually with four foreign languages in my brain?
