Auto Mercado has a German brand horseradish. It is called "Tafel Meerrettich" in German and "Aderezo de Rabano Picante" in Spanish. It is pretty good and mixed with some off the shelf cocktail sauce, while not Bookbinders, is not a bad substitute.

If you go to the AutoMercado in Multi Plaza they have a great selection of imported condiments, pricey but I remember Cross and Blackwell cocktail sauce being available. Also that location has the best seafood selection. I bought Shrimp and some Snook, known there as Robalo and showed a chef at the Del Mar how I wanted it prepared/fried. I even brought the eggs, oil and flour and breadcrumbs. Came out great, work out the price ahead of time with restaurant of your choice. Buen Provecho!!!

One of the most under discussed places that I frequent is out near Curridabat- it's called "El Balcon De Los Mariscos"... it's got Tico Prices and all the food is excellent all the time. It's always usually crowded with upper class Ticos from everywhere, very few Gringo know about this place.

This is an excellent place to eat. It's about 15-20 minutes from the DR. I love all the fish dishes there, especially "pescado frito entero sin espinas" delicioso, sabroso, y barato. Muy Tico.

Chau,
