LOL! I like how he just comes out and tells everyone how he really feels. Funny as hell.

He really gets to the point doesn't he? I too hate Jury duty, being the only one able to answer the phone for my business it would be a severe hardship. Last year when I appeared in court after being denied I left my cell phone on when instructions where being read by the judge. The judge called me up front to tell me TURN off your cell phone, I explained if you wanted to provide a secretary for me your honor I'll be glad to turn it off otherwise sir I'll need to be excused to answer my phone as I do not have a secretary and cannot afford one. It worked this time but maybe not next time.

I filled out a jury form a few months ago and noted in the remarks block that I would consider it as civic duty/ honor to be selected for jury duty. However, I also indicated that I would be out of the country for 2-3 trips out of state or abroad and indicated the very specific dates over the next eight months or so.

The woman actually called me and said that if picked, I'd have to serve whenever the court decided.

I told her that I had no objection to serving, but if I had a prepaid airfare or prepaid trip cost that I simply would not be in the US at that time and that they would have to come get me.

I have not been contacted since, and that was about 4-5 months ago.

I don't mind doing my civic duty but, I'm not canceling a prepaid trip and eating the penalties.

They make it real tough in NJ to get out jury duty--doctors, cops, convicted felons, small business owners, all the folks that used to get an automatic "pass"--they don't care--just get your tacky buns in the jury box.
