The food is excellent and so is the service! They also treat you and your "chica" with the upmost respect.

a couple things.

They have a guard watching the cars, so I'm a bit surprised about the car problem. I'm guessing he didn't park very close to the restaurant. It is in the 1st floor of a school (Casa Italiano), and depending on what time you get there, it may be very hard to find parking within 1 block.

Tony used to own Ponte Veccio in CR. he had to leave for some tax problems, and opened a restaurant in central Illinois for a few years. He had an arrangement with another Italian to run Ponte Veccio for him for those 3 years. He had to transfer the ownership of PV to the other Italian. When he came back the other guy said "F. U. it's my restaurant" Tony said "OK", opened Il Ritorno. Made 1 phone call and his entire waitstaff and bartender from PV immediately left PV for IR. And PV is now out of business.

I think they tore down the KFC, so it can now be tricky to find.

AS for a light menu, his menu has many light dishes.

4 of us enjoyed dinner at Il Ritorno tonight, the appetizers, veal, fish and pasta were excellent. Only 5 minutes by taxi, thanks to VB for recommending this place.

I'll pipe in here and say that it's among my favorite places to eat in the whole valley.

Does anyone know what hours they're open on the weekends?
I want to take a friend there about 4pm on Sunday. I know that during the week they're closed for about three hours in the late afternoon, but am hoping they're open all afternoon on the weekends.

2 trips in about a month, with a total of 12 people. It is unanimous it really does not matter what you order it will be great. Veal, Chicken, Fish and Pasta have all been enjoyed by our groups. It is always a good sign to me when there is lots of sharing around the table because everyone likes what they have and think it is the best.

The owner/chef is great, the service impeccable. They treated our ladies like queens, and us like kings. I have this as a must do place almost every trip.

Went there last night, 3 of us. Disappointed. Without a reservation, no room for us. Learned that lesson. I'm calling ahead next time. Damn, I was looking forward to the veal. :( :(

I was told that Tony is planning to open a restaurant in Escazu. I'm not sure if he plans on keeping the current one in Los Yoses open in addition to the new one. I am planning on eating there tonight,so I'll ask him what his plans are.
