Silly question, but I drink "light beers". What is considered "light" in CR? Is Imperial a "dark" heavy tasting beer? What about mexican beers? Are they available? I know the American beers are not there, correct?

If all else fails, Gin and Tonics are just fine.

Thanks.

You can get light beers. Imperial has one but its not a very heavy beer to begin with. They are all mostly German style Pilsners. Locals drink beer on ice most of the time. You can also get Corona if you want it but that's more or less an American anymore.

If you like light American style Pilsners then Imperial will sit well with you.

I'm surprised no one has mention Pilsen I consider that a light Costa Rican beer. They brew Heineken there locally so it is inexpensive even at the bar I think about 1250 colones at the Rey and in my opinion it's brew quality is better, no so much of a hang over.

imperial has discontinued the light version because it did not meet the standards of a light beer ie fewer calories etc. the replacement is called silver. at first i thought it was only a name change, but the light beer was 4.2 content and the silver is 4.6. basically the taste is the same.

Forget beer here.

You can find some decent selections like Duval and Leffe, but they are expensive. Its fun to buy one every once and awhile to remember what you left behind...lol.

IMHO, I found Bavaria Light to be pretty darn light.

I'm not a beer drinker myself, but at the Time Out Tavern in Escazu they feature a few speciality beers brewed locally (not by the Imperal people). If you're out this way, go check it out. TOT is about 300 meters south of the Costa Rica CC on your left.
