I've stayed at Hotel Morazan Costa Rica several times about 3 or 4 years ago. Make sure you add a "2" before the prefix when dialing...the number when calling from the US is: 011-506-2-222-4622. (That also serves as the hotel's FAX number.) It's best to do everything by phone and fax. So not use the website...it's about 5 years old and lacking detail.

When I made reservations several years ago, the hotel faxed me a reservation sheet. I filled it out and faxed it back to them. Several hours later, I received a faxed confirmation...make sure you save it. It contained a confirmation #. Although I never experienced any problems, but some members complained of "missing reservations." Standard rooms back then were about $40 a night. Although the hotel advertised a $5 chica fee, it's never really enforced.

For the money, it's not a bad hotel and close to all the action. The guy at the front desk, Ricardo, can be annoying at times (eg requesting propinas), but if you are square and forthright with him, it's no big deal. I actually found him helpful and would slip him 4 or 5K colones when I got ready to leave.

For the best deal you must phone direct and the price for a standard room is $47 +$3 tax included for a safe. I`m booked there for 5 nights Feb 25 on ward.I like the place but it`s not for everyone.

Angie works the desk between 2 and 10 pm. I always call her and she will make your reservation over the phone and give you a confirmation #. She reserved me room 501, but when I got there at 11pm, she was gone and the room given to someone else. Also, your remote control will not work and you'll have to go back downstairs to get one that works. It took me 3 tries before I got one that worked. The elevator goes out maybe once a day so be prepared to walk the stairs. Last summer the hotel was without water for 30 hours. The resturant is on the second floor but I wouldn't recommend it. But the location is great and no chica fee.

They discontinued the coupon and raised the price to $45.00 IVI per night and included breakfast about 9 months ago. Based on Jokers post they may have raised that rate a couple of bucks recently. Still one of the best deals in the gulch even with "bum remotes".

Before moving here to CR,The Morazan was my hotel of choice for many trips. I always stayed on the 5th floor which had all the Jr. suites for a little more money. (505 was my fav.) There were lots of flaws, but the rooms on the 5 th floor and the location made up for most of them. Ignore Ricardo and he will go away.

Stayed at the Morazan on my first trip, it wasn't bad, but that was 9 years ago now. The location is the biggest plus, IMO.

I'll be down there in late May with a first timer who is on a budget. What is the rate for a double room lately? Are there double suites? Room #'s not facing street, recommendations? Thanks.

I just received an email earlier from the manager Jose quoting me $73.00 taxes and breakfast included for a double room. Still a decent value, my wingman and I are paying 36.50 per night with the split and no chica fee.

OK you your wingman is on a budget but do you really want to share a room? If you both have chicas at the same time do you really want four of you in these small rooms? What about toda la noche with the chicas? How close are you with your wingman?

For $15.50 a piece more you could each have your own room. If he can't afford that send him to one of the other cheaper hotels (ask Seahawk) or a hostel.
