If you're out in Escazu try La Taverna, it's on the old Escazu-Sabana road, directly adjacent to the Shell station (after the Shell is the Saretto's supermarket). The place is owned and run by a fellow originally from Venice, Italy. He's got a lunch special for 3900 colone; a great chicken parm., does a nice job on his pizzas. Authentic Italian food.

He has no liquor license but there is no corkage charge if you want to bring your own bottle of wine. Saretto's supermarket has one of the largest wine selections in San Jose so you can pick up a bottle there.

ID, true on that info, but if you've been in a few times, he's been known to supply a drink or 2 to his customers. :D We should start a thread, Places in CR where you can BYOB without incurring the management's wrath.

Actually I think that might be the first post he made that I understand. Off course you have to live in the area to break the code to know what places he is talking about.

From the gulch the pista (Prospero Fernandez) that is on the south side of Sabana Park. Get off at the first Escazu exit (it will be the second exit you come to) and at the first traffic light turn left (there is a Perimercado on the one corner and a Tony Roma's on the opposite corner.) At the next light (only about 75 feet) stay left and the restaurant will be on the left side just before the Shell station.

Buon Appetite :D
