I have a friend coming down who wants to rent a car. Can anyone 'steer' me in some direction? I know it's a hassle and expensive, I'm just looking for the smallest hassle and the least expensive. Thanks, amigos.

Also, anybody played golf at Valle del Sol? Is it easy to get a tee time there, or difficult?

Hey Bilko check Thrifty, someone posted 99.00/week special a while back but a compact around 135/week is available now.

Biko, I rented form Eurocar on Paseo Colon when my son and I came down and was well pleased. Got a fair rate and no problems on returning the car. The kicker is the mandatory liability insurance that you have to have in CR to rent a car.It ends up being more than the car rental.

I strongly recommend against Budget as I had a very bad expericnce renting from them on one of my early trips to CR 8 or 10 years ago. Our rental car broke down and they charged my credit card over $600 for negligence in alowing the car to have mechanical failure. It was only after about a 6 month ordeal that the charges were finally refunded.rbc100

I must be nuts. 24 hours ago; I was still in CR. Alas, I touched down in the frozen tundra and I am already on this site checking stuff out. Anyway about the car thing. I flew in christmas eve and wanted a car for the entire 2 weeks. Nobody had anything. I found an ad in the Tico Times. A decent American fellow named Andy, living in Santa Ana has about 10 cars that he rents to us guys. From $125 to $195 a week including insurance. He deals in cash with you posting a $300 deposit. I had a good experience working with him. You might too. His number is 282-7013.

Valle del Sol is a decent enough course. Just show up early and they will get you out. You have to worry more about the weather then anything else..
