I plan to use the DR atm while im there..can anyone tell me if a BOA atm card will work and if so..any fees with it? Thanks again...

I know that BOA has operations in CR. Regardless you should be able to use your card no problem but you will have to tell your local branch what card you will be using and between what dates. That's what I had to do and it worked no problem. I have 2 debit cards (different accounts) and the one I told my bank I would be using worked no problem. I tested the second card while there and it wouldn't work at all.

As far as fees go, I don't have any info.

yeah ,,,i use it on every trip ....I use the machine near the rummy/tute table, I take 200 out at a time (us) i get charged 5.00 each time but I know its safe ...after getting the dollars I change into col. at the table (casino) play one or 2 hands ..get a free drink or 2 and hit the road...Never had any problem with that machine and since you are the one putting your code in while you have your card in your hand ...no chance of any bullshit going on with your card.....only time I have had problems with my card was at the sportmens ...as after they ran my card for my bill it locked up my card ...and I had to go through all the questions on the phone to have my card unlocked

Any charges will be by BOA. May have changed but have an amigo who use to use his BOA debit card with no problem other than the $5.00 charge per use from BOA. He got smart and found a new bank so have no idea if anything has changed in the past year.

I live here but my SS check is deposited in BOA in Florida and I use a BOA debit card to access money from the ATMs. Have never found an ATM that would not take the card. As others have said there is a $5 fee every time you use the card and the daily limit is $500. One other fact; that $5 fee is if you get dollars. If you get Colonies there is another $5 money exchange free. The exchange rate will be at the current bank rate, but it will cost you the extra $5. What I do is get dollars out of the machine then go in the bank and exchange the dollars for colones. One other thing, a lot of the ATMs here will only despence colones so make sure you can get dollars. Most Banco National ATMs do not have dollars. all BCR ATMs do most of the time.

Many banks now offer incentives and wave all fees associated with using other ATMs. I don't get charged at all when I travel and use an ATM. Ask your bank about accounts that wave all fees. You have to carry a minimum balance in various accounts but if you are a frequent traveler it really does cut down on costs.

I've had BofA for years, and I used to get hit up for all this bullshit...

I've had a heart to heart with my banker last year, and since then, I don't get charged fees internationally...

My daily limit is 700... when I go to CR I usually get them to raise that to 1400... They can do that for a week... then it reverts back

I believe the currency exchange fee is actually 1% of the withdrawal amount for BOA, but that would indeed be about $5 if you're making 250K Colones withdrawals. Haven't been to CR yet (virgin trip is next month), but that's what they were charging on my withdrawals in Guatemala, Thailand and Japan.

It is $5 here no matter how much you withdraw in my experience. If you use your BOA debit card in a store here it is figured differently and is rediculous. Had to use it recently in a Hypermas (Walmart superstore here) and on a $125 purchase, the bank charged me $4.70. Will never do that again.

Most of these charges have just started in the past year. Wonder how much the Banking industry problems in the USA have affected thse changes??? Till last year the charge was $2 for withdrawals up to $500 and there was no exchange fee; and I was never charged a fee for using my card in a store here untill just a few months ago..

Well I guess $5 flat is a little bit better than $5 plus 1%. But in any case, I do not use BoA anymore primarily because of what I have been charged from using international ATMs. My current bank charges the same $2 per ATM transaction no matter where you are in the world.

I have used my BOA debit card at DR a few times.The machine to the right of the front desk that dispenses colones.1.95 machine charge and $5 fee from BOA.Best exchange rate but you save little or nothing due to both fees.

I used a BofA Visa credit card only once in CR to pay my exit tax at the airport. The exit tax was $27 and BofA charged me $10 in fees.
As BangBang57 says $5 for cash advance and $5 for exchanging into Colones. Total rip off.

I used a Wamu (now Chase) debit card at the DR machines. One gives you a choise of Dollars or Colones but there was no ATM charges added.

You must tell your bank that you are going to be using your card in CR or you may find it locked out.

As far as I can tell BofA is the worst card to use because of their fee structure.
