Blue Palms. Rooms can be had for $30. One or two might be a little more... Nothing fancy but has AC and cable TV. Not on main street but maybe 5 blocks away.

I don't know if anybody has reported on their stay there--maybe you'll be the first?

I stayed at the Roble Mar back in 2004. Don't think they had AC then. Do they know have AC and what are the rates these days for say late May?

Claritas,
Has a nice beach front bar with good food. Rooms are simple but clean.

Im posting from the Roblemar right now... (August 2010 update of this old thread).

Im paying $50 a night for a room with AC (all upstairs units have AC)... its a simple room with TV and 2 double beds and a portable fridge... and Internet is decent - to my surprise... here's the crapper. My room has no hot water... the cold isnt freezing.. so its manageable... no chica fees here - but girls do need to register when they come to the room.

The guy actually quoted $65 over the phone... but I drove down here with no reservation just to see what I could find... and he gave me a $50 rate when I asked face to face with no haggling.

Here's the good part of the post, though... the place directly behind this is called "Rilana's place" and I checked out a room there... they are sweeeet rooms.. very modern looking, Internet, hot water, good size.. 100 meters to the beach and 100 meters to the Beetle Bar... all for $55 and no chica fee. I'm staying there tomorrow.

Their website rates are a bit higher... but I spoke to the owner on the phone tonight and he offered $55. Here is the website... only 4 units in the building... if I came down more often, I would be tempted to keep this my little secret.

A buddy who lived there and owns proprerty above Jaco took me around. I found ranges from $20 on up. I stayed at Tangiera (sp?) for two nights and was upgraded to a villa during the high season because they booked a room with one bed for two guys...the accomodations would be great for Ticos, with Atlas stoves, inexpensive furnishings, etc. I had to remind myself that we were on the beach.

There are gringo prices and tico prices for most things touristica. If it weren't for the girls, the beach, the nightlife, the sunshine, ATV's, fishing....

Blue Palms for $30 is fairly nice, 5 blocks to beach. Has a small pool.

Thirdworld, do the two Israeli brothers still own it and the Naked Taco place?

Stayed at the Cocal Casino. $65 a night. Seen a few working girls in the casino. I think the Hotel Flamboyant was $28 a night next door. Like a little bungalow.
Action above Pancho Villa restaurant . XXX club. $60 for the girl $1.50 beers ( 3 years ago ) and $10 lap dances. Head waitress will try to get you to take the girl out for $100 and will say there are no rooms upstairs. There are rooms upstairs you have to tell her. Pay as you go here. Do not run a tab.
