Does Vista suck that bad? I was thinking about getting a new PC but all they have now is Vista. I may just keep my old XP for a few more years.

VISTA is a memory hog is the main issue. There is no reason you cannot buy a new computer with VISTA on it and simply have a techie reformat the hard drive and put Windows XP on it. You will need to purchase a valid copy of XP to do that....but they're pretty darn cheap on Ebay these days. I would not use a pirated version of XP on a primary machine....most of the computers I've seen in CR are using pirate versions of XP and typically cannot be updated or run many Microsoft based programs because the pirate copy of XP won't "validate".

OK guess Im a little slow too...been using Skype also...but I can see one advantage for me in being able to hook up a fax machine using a phone wire to the computer. (Going without a house phone now)...Ordered the free trial today.

Which is stupid because XP won't recognize more than 3.5 gigs of RAM and when I am shelling out for a main machine I load it with memory.

VISTA isn't horrible, it just got a crap rep because on release it was a steaming pile of crap. With patches it has stable and easy to work with. You can turn off the more annoying features easily and you get a nice OS that does boot much faster than XP.

Well, it looks like we are moving to a point where land line home phones and their high bills are becoming outmoded and financially wasteful.

Magicjack would be awesome to have as a home phone, except that you must have your computer on for it to work.

Been using Magicjack for the past week from the SL on my Windows Vista laptop and haven't had any problems. Also being told I sound clearer than when I'm on my cell phone.

Has anyone been able to successfully uninstall the magic jack software?

If so would you be so kind as to enlighten a computer challenged old geezer brother as to the procedure.

FYI: I’m using XP.

Thanks in advance

FMC1:

I do not have MagicJack, but the uninstall of the software has to be fairly straightforward like MOST software uninstalls. I am happy to help you, but it's kinda problematic doing it in typewritten form. You will need to get into the control panel and look for "Add or remove programs". When you get that far, you should be able to scroll down to the MagicJack software and uninstall from that point forward. Simply click on the software description and "buttons" will appear; one of those buttons will say Remove....and you will want to push that button.

However, how you get to your control panel depends on how you have Windows XP set up to "look". It really isn't that much different with VISTA.....again, though, I don't have the software installed so I don't want to write anything for certain. If you have SKYPE; or Yahoo! or MSN, I could talk you through it....or provide your phone number and I can phone you and walk you through it. As is the norm around here...YMMV!

Try this:

Click on Start in the lower left hand of your monitor (with the mouse of course)
Look for Control Panel and click on that
The Control Panel box will pop up.
Look for "Add or Remove Programs" and double click on that
Another box will pop up which should read "Currently installed programs". Look for the MagicJack software and click on it one time to highlight it. To the right will now be two buttons....one says Change and the other says Remove.

Click on Remove and then follow the yellow brick road....

All due respect to Steven1, but there is a much simpler, more effective way to remove ALL of a program's stuff, even the little oddments MicroSquish's uninstaller might miss. Run this after OR in place of the native program:
http://download.cnet.com/Revo-Uninstall ... 87648.html
It's a free-forever download and www.download.com rates it at 5 stars (their highest rating). There's even a video about it. I have it and use it. Great stuff.

Oh I do appreciate this tip, JazzboCR...indeed I do....but I personally don't like the add on softwares out there as they muck about the registry and "clutter" things up...at least in my world. I do my own surgery on the registry when needed.

I was only trying to give the other fellow some basic thoughts about a basic uninstall.

Thanks again.....and wrap that rascal!

Using your procedure you simply get the following.

MagicJack
Uninstaller
(not found)

I haven't but you'll find some interesting info by googling "uninstall magicjack"

Once the MagicJack software has been successfully installed, nowhere on your computer will you find an “uninstaller” provided. You will not find it in Start>All Programs, nor under Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. This is because an uninstaller does not exist.

In view of the above posts about the lack of an MJ uninstaller, it's almost necessary to go to a 3rd party standalone uninstaller program such as I mentioned. I understand and appreciate Steven1's objections, not least because there are rogue programs out there that can do more harm than good, but for anybody less than an expert at Registry Edits, Revo Uninstaller or some other highly-rated program is the answer. On the other hand, what's the harm of having MJ on your system and just not using it? It may take up a bunch of space on your hard drive but other than that, seems like just a passive lump if you don't renew the useage fees. I'm not familiar with MJ so there's doubtless other things I'm not thinking of.
