LB,

IMHO you should blow off Jaco all together. You can stay in SJ and have plenty of fun doing day tours from there and still having all the fun of the HDR/KL at night. Book rooms at either the Amistad or the SL. Once you have seen the HDR on a busy night full of chicas from all over you will be very glad that you took my advice.

Regarding your upcoming nuprtials.....best of luck andd remember......
while the cat is away the mice will play.......and if you don't believe me just ask our Official CRT Photographer Mickey Styles

If you are going to go back to SJ for the day, and then return that night, you may want to look at flying. It would be worth it to fly in to SJ in the morning, and return by air the next day though.

The only problem with the "fly" option is that there is no airport in Jaco. The nearest is Quepos, about an hour east of Jaco on the coast.

I would advise that you cancel your Jaco reservations and find a place in town. The ATV tours, rafting, etc, are all available and you could do a day trip for surf lessons. Your funera...er...bachelor party.

Go to Jaco for a few days only if you really want to be on a beach and have ready access to a Blue Marlin-type hooker bar for P4P. Care more about a good beach? Go to Tamarindo, or Flamingo, or to the Caribbean side, or any number of far better beaches. Care more about P4P? Stay in San Jose, you can book all tours/activities there.

As for getting to Jaco, go with Grey Line or Interbus, or find a good deal with a private driver, or just take the bus. :D

Renting a car can be a major pain in the ass. Traffic and the way they drive is not like anything you have experienced in the US. Traffic is often governed by right-of-way, which is different from the US. Expect to always be thinking about a secure place to leave the car and what is happening to it while it is out of your sight. Any damage to the vehicle is your responsibility if you didn't specifically point out the damage at delivery (including damage to the undercarriage).

You may be stopped at any time and searched, vehicle and luggage. You don't have the same "rights" here as we used to have in the US. Have a good Spanish speaker with you and all paperwork in order. Drinking and driving is a serious thing here and a bust can ruin your trip, among other things.

My advice would be to hire one of the drivers often suggested here. They will pick you up with a modern van complete with air conditioning, a cooler of cold beer, snacks and anything else you might like to shorten the trip. They will know where to stop for lunch, all the traffic tricks and how to deal with the cops.

Or, you can rent a car....

Well thanks for everyones input. I talked with my friends and I think we are going to hit one of the MP when we get there since we land before 11 then drive to JACO. I already paid for the room so I cant get out. If it turns out JACO is that much worse than SJ we are just going to eat the cost of the extra night and drive to SJ the day before to spend a night in SJ then flight back.

I plan on renting a car with GPS so hopefully that helps. Was planning on renting a small SUV but there is no trunk so we probably wont be able to store our bags when we get there initially. Thinking about renting a mitsubishi lancer with a trunk like I saw in the website. I have been on Colombia roads traveling in the moutains I know what you guys are talking about with the passing Ill make sure I drive slow and safe versus fast and sorry.

We are going 6/5 and comming back on 6/13. I am the only one with a little monger experience. If there is anyone on the board that would like to show us around maybe when we get there or the day back I wouldnt mind having some lunch and drinks on us.

Oh my girl is colombian and I am looking for girls more light skin. Ill make sure I ask before I go which MP has more light skin before I go to get an update! My friends and I are so excited!!!!!

Ummmm....rental SUV's have a sticker on them (not visible to the renter) which essetially says "HEY! I AM A GRINGO TOURIST!!! COME AND GET ME!!!" Suggest you secure the smallest car you can get....

Just my 2¢.....but it's really a million dollar piece of data....

Also, why in the hell aren't you taking your buds to Colombia especially if you are already familiar with it ?

Well we actually met in high school here in the states. But I went with her to Colombia twice and her local Uncle and her brother took me around to the clubs. Her uncle was really cool and actually recommended the clubs that we visited and we actually walked around downtown looking for spots like that for me and her brother. My original plan was to go to Bogota but her brother was not able to afford the trip and he is not going with us to CR. Well my spanish after 8 years still suck, I am taking rosetta stone to brush up. I would not be able to go to Colombia unaccompanied because I dont want to get ripped off and I dont speak spanish and not really familiar with everything over there.

Now my plan is to rent a small car. Wanted to take a SUV maybe to go offroading or something. Do you guys think it would be safe if we leave our luggage locked int he trunk while we go to a MP? Also if we pick up a chick at SL is there somewhere to rent a room for an hour?

Was planning on getting a threesome for my self. But if they are down with it dont mind getting maybe us plus 6 or 7? Lol anything is possible and cien is not too bad. My buds spend couple hundred for lap dances here in the states. They still dont understand it when I tell them lap dances are the biggest rip off in the world.

Enough of the negative talk.....This poor guy is gonna be scared to death by the time you all get done with him. He will end up having is party in Vegas!!!

I cant really talk because I have never been there but is CR really that crime ridden? With all the tourists that go there every year I wonder what percentage are involved in a crime. I know that mongering does give you a better chance of being a victim. I am still planning on going because of the cheap airfare but I have decided that when I go out at night I am going to have one of you guys as a wingman and not do it alone!!! I think Im gonna do SL for half the week and Amistad for the other half and just do a couple of day trips...........

LB,

Do yourself a favor and forget about the rental car. Overall it will be cheaper and you will be much less likely to have anything stolen if you just hire a driver and van to get you and your buds to Playa Jaco. The driver can pick you guys up at the airport and he will babysit your luggage while ya'll do the MP thing.

I would still recommend highly spending the final night in SJ at the SL or La Amistad so you can check out the show at the HDR/KL. After you do that you are gonna wish you would have changed your plans and spent the entire trip in SJ, but hindsight is 20/20.

Btw, if your girl has been in the USA for the last several years unfortunatley she is most probably a Gringa 100% by now. But good luck with the mariage.

Rainmain,

She is gringa as much as I am a gringo. Im asian and she knows that I am not going to ever be fully sexually faithful. LOL I dont know about you guys but I have a girl that cooks cleans and works while I come home and chill. She lets me go out to CR and strip clubs by myself!

Anyways, I guess that is probably the best to either get a personal driver or just meet up one of you guys and have you guys help me while im there. ANYONE WILLING TO HELP US OUT? Lunch and drinks are on the table.... We know how to treat someone that helps us out.

Hey everyone,

This is my first post and I have read through more than 30 pages of NEWBIE thread.

I am going to CR in June for my bachelors party. Although I told me fiance that this wont be my last and that this is probably an annual trip for me to blow off some steam by myself. She is aware of what happens in CR.

I had talked to couple of my coworkers that have gone to CR to surf and not monger. They reco'd not to go to SJ at first and I understood because they are pretty much conservative. They have been to JACO and described it to me and I did some research on JACO and the beatle bar and decided it was great for me. It is going to myself and 3 other freinds making the trip with everyone knowing that one of the attractions are going to be P4P. We also plan on doing all of the tours during the day.

I have already booked my flight and rented a condo at JACO. We are staying 8 nights. We are going to rent a car from the airport and drive to JACO. I was wondering would it be worth it to drive back to SJ during the week to monger and check out the scene a little? Should I come back a night early before my departure and stay in SJ or should I stay during the day at SJ and visit some MP before driving to JACO?

I have been to the "clubs" in Bogota Colombia before and pretty familiar with that scene. I know it might be a little different in CR. Oh by the way going rate for CBJ and 1hr is about 40,000 peso which was about 20 dollar US. I know its going to be more like a cien and am fine with that, I know to negotiate.

So what do you guys think drive back during the week or just stay a night?
My first trip was to SJ and stayed at HDR and I love the beach but I am not going for the beach or the water.

Do not over analyze or over plan. Definitely rent a car or cars (SUV is best for bad roads and boards). You guys will have a great time no matter where you go.
