I love my MagicJack. I've had mine almost a full year, and couldn't be happier. Matter of fact, I just renewed my plan for 5 more years for $59. Now I'm good until March, 2014.

I am officially convinced, ordered and on its way.....

I guess I need a techie response to my question. If I bought a netbook to use as the dedicated 'server' to a magic jack could I then plug in my uniden base station and use all four cordless handsets scattered around the house? If I could do that I could fire Verizon and save more than $700 per year and the only thing I'd have to adjust to would be to losing my home phone number and using the new magic jack number for all 'home' calls. Would that work? And could I program in a local 911 number in case of a home emergency?

In theory it should work. Having never used the magic jack and haven't really researched it take that answer with a grain of salt.

As for 911 use a cell phone if you are switching to VOIP. Only Vonage has 911 built in.

Yes to all of the above. I do not use it at home but my brother-in-law does with multiple phones attach to it. It works perfectly. I use MagicJack only when I travel but almost the same setup that you are asking except with only one phone attach to it.

I do believe he means a 911 like number....but not 911 itself....that is, some phone number that rings up the emergency people.

Yes, you can program in an auto dial number to ring up your emergency people and, yes, you can use your cordless phone system (wireless to use J0sie's lingo!!!): Simply plug the primary base into the MagicJack and you'll be good to go....(You have to remember, though, that all the calls you make to Costa Rica phone numbers will be billed as international long distance from the USA based MagicJack phone number and must be dialed as if you were phoning from the USA: 011-506-5555-5555...)....

Does Vista suck that bad? I was thinking about getting a new PC but all they have now is Vista. I may just keep my old XP for a few more years.
