Okiemike, I have posted this several times before but:

The laws concerning minors here in CR are strickly inforced and the time in prison varies depending on the age of the minor. (2 years to 'forever')!! Two very important points are: Unlike the USA, here you are guilty till proven innocent; and it makes NO difference what she showed you; if she is und***ge, you are guilty Costa Rica also inforces the USA law dealing with Americans traveling for the purpose of sex with a minor (and if you are traveling and are caught with a minor, it is assumed you traveled for that purpose).

Many very young chicas see prostitution as a way to make some quick cash and do not understand fully the laws. Especially in areas such as 15 de Setiembre de Hatillo, there are almost always 14 and 15 year old chicas selling their bodies on the streets. und***ge chicas have no problem with using an older sister's, a cousin's, or a friend's cedula to gain entrance to places where the ID is checked (HDR, SL). Strip clubs and MPs are usually much less likely to have und***ge chicas as they can be shut down and loose their licenses, therefore they check much closer.

On occasion there have been und***ge chicas working a scam in places like the HDR. The chica will get to the room with a 'client', then tell him she is und***ge and is going to call the cops if he does not give her a large sum of $$$$$.

One chica that I know worked the HDR for 3 years before being caught 1 week before her 18th birthday. I took my ex-putanovia's cedula away from her 17 yo friend in the HDR one night. One of the most famous chicas around has been working for over 3 years and she is 19 now

AS OTHERS HAVE SAID, IF SHE LOOKS VERY YOUNG, BE CAREFUL

All that said, it is not meant to scare you or anyone else, and it is not that big of a problem; it is just something everyone needs to be aware of and take precautions against

Scary but true. I have known of und***ge girls working KL/HDR and SL at various times. As soon as it is discovered they are 86ed but the damage can already be done.

I know of one girl I ran into at the mall who looked like an 18 yr old model. When questioned she admitted that her birthday was in two weeks. Unfortunately, it wasn't her 18th birthday by a year or two. She insisted that all she wanted was work and that she had many similar friends she could introduce me to, all of similar age. She had worked at KL with her older sisters ID. She said that she and several of her friends had older sister who were working. She was obviously jealous of her sisters ability to spend the day shopping the mall for trinkets and lounging in the beauty salon while she and her friends watched from the sidelines or gave it away to their Tico boyfriends.

I have also seen girls admitted that have copies of an ID. Their story is that their ID was lost or stolen and they are awaiting replacement. Fact is, they just copied a friend's ID inserting a picture of themselves over the original.

There are just way too many downsides to taking chances. If she looks young and you are not sure, have the security guard or receptionist help validate the ID or just pass.

What if you meet a non working 17 yr old girl at the mall or a club or a restaurant, is it ok to hang out with her? or is it 18 is the magic number cut and dry......... The reason I am asking all these questions is because I tend not to be attracted to women that look 30 or 40 years old. I am attracted to the 18-25 yr olds so therefore the apprehension. I dont wanna go to prison for taking a 17 yr old girl and some of her friends to dinner and dancing and maybe getting lucky with one of them and the whole time I thought they were over 18. To be honest, I dont plan on spending all my time in the puta hangouts. I would like to go to the local hangouts first and if I strikeout then resort to the the likes of HDR KL etc....I hope this makes sense..........okiemike

Mike....I believe we live in similar worlds as I do believe you too are in a university community, if i recall? Me too.....both of us have college coeds walking all about our little pieces of the world...and yet we travel to CR.....

First you have taken the bashing like a man a good quality for a CRTer
Do not get put off by the age question It is a warning like always take a cab at night. CR has different laws that we must be aware of.
As far as going after no working girls, for that to turn into a good time will take lots of work,more than a few days in town.
Try finding a working girl that you enjoy spending time with.Take her to dinner or shopping with the understanding that the cost you incure on these trips is part of her compensation of what happens later.
You can peal the thick skin back abit with the right girl.You may find yourself wanting to go down this road further beware it is paved with broken glass.
If you have some luck with this plan then you my want to venture into the no-pro arena
You will also find tons of young girls that are legal that fit your needs
But if you are having cold feet about a trip to CR than it my not be for you No vacation is fun if you are looking over your sholder all the time

Okiemike as for looking for NON-PROS especially in the 18-25 age range, I can only wish you good luck; you are going to need a lot of it (luck), and game, and money, and time, and spanish speaking and understanding, and looks, and and and and !!!!!!!!!!

I think you said you were in your 40s; most of the 18-25 chicas you meet in the malls and other upper scale places will not give you the time of day, most of the few that will are going to be hookers just out shopping, or if in a club, partying with friends. Even if you get lucky and meet a very young non pro, very few are going to just jump in bed with you within the first week. And by the time you get her there, you will have spent a lot more time and money than if you just meet and pay a PRO at one of the many venues here. AND almost always, you will get better sex, thou maybe not as romantic.

Again I am not saying you can not meet and have a fantastic time with a non pro, just that you will be very lucky if you do. Hell even an old fart like me has done it,,BUT I live here, have the time, speak the language, and kinda know what to look for.

If you go into some of the poorer barrios looking for a non pro, yes you will be more likely to fine one (they tend to be more desperate for a better life and even the non pro will tend to look at any gringo as a meal ticket); that is if you do not get mugged first by someone else looking for a "meal ticket"!!! One of the BEST places to look for non pros (poor) and more willing, is in the tiendas in the more dangerous part of central San Jose. But you have to be "shopping" for them to be able to spend any time with you in the store to get to know them; they are very often und***ge; and usually very uneducated.

As others have tried to suggest, till you have been here a few times, know the 'scene', speak the language, and have a lot of time; just stick with the venues where the 'Pros" are and HAVE FUN without all the hazzle.

AND do not worry that much about the und***ge problem; und***ge chicas is not that big of a problem in the major venues; just be careful and if she looks really young, run away no matter what she shows you. Stick with the ones that look over 20 and always remember "with age comes experience, and quality of service!!!!!! In all honesty, not always but in most cases!!

If you speak Spanish and want to chase non pros so badly I would strongly suggest traveling to Colombia. Medellin, Bogota or Cal should all be suitable. There are much fewer gringos running around Colombia than there are in CR so we are much more of a novelty there.
