It seems that the SJ chicas are the least green. They shower (often at some length) before and after, and use up your towels as though they were tissues. I have to regularly bribe the maids to give me an ample supply of towels.

To back up Brother El Ciego's point about "creeping totalitarianism", there's a recent book on the subject by a well-respected political theorist Sheldon S, Wolin called Democracy Incorporated warning of the gradual but near-inevitable takeover of democracy by corporate interests using "inverted totalitarianism. This is not some hysterical rant by a fringe-type but "...a brilliant, nuanced and detailed dissection of the abject failures of the American political system...".
Here's a full review of the book from the Philly Inquirer:

Brother Cariden--Actually I haven't read it yet though I've requested my library to buy it. That is a quote (which I should have attributed in the Post) from the review I linked. The review's author is himself a respected political theorist. But just from having read the lengthy review I most likely do agree with the intent and conclusions of Mr. Wolin's volume.

There is of course a difference, Mark...

One can *unscrew* a lightbulb.

You are correct mi amigo. I speak from experience with the 'system'.
It is indeed mostly about the money now.

Here I go with another back-to-back post, this one just for Brother El Ciego:
www.nytimes.com/2009/04/24/world/europe/24bulbs.html

By the way, there is another choice not previously mentioned: the Full-spectrum bulb or Ott light. It delivers as the name says the full spectrum of light and is thus necessary if one is matching dye colors or wants the exact color demonstrated when minute differences can make huge price differences (think: collectable postage stamps). They also have the salutary effect of making reading easier because they heighten the contrast between the printing ink and the paper (especially if optical brighteners have been used on the paper)--the printing just jumps out at you. OTOH, women hate it because like HD TV/ movies every little defect shows when for example putting on make-up.

And lastly about incandescent bulb alternatives (I promise--everybody's near boredom on this) is this NYT editorial:
http://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/10/opini ... 0sun4.html << Warning: This edges a bit into the political.

Speaking of light bulbs....

Does anyone know how many Marxists are required to screw in a light bulb?

None. Why?

Within the light bulb are the seeds of its own revolution.
