Aftershock now, as strong as the first. Doubt it is QBF as his recovery time is longer than that...about the right duration, however, 10 seconds.

USGS rates the second one at 5.9, just a little stronger then the 5.7 of the first one, and it was also in the Golfo Dulce very close to the first one today.

Here's an update:

Earthquake Sends Southern Zone Into Panic, No Major Damage
Inside Costa Rica

The first earthquake was felt at 11:24am, then another again at 3:04pm, sending the resident of the Southern Zone in panic as flashes of what happened in Cinchona on January 8 could now be happening to them. Both earthquakes were centred near the Costa Rica and Panama border in the port town of Golfito, knocking items off shelves in several southern towns, as the quakes were felt as far away as the Central Valley (San Jose).

The first earthquake at 11:24am was located 12 km Southwest of Golfito at a 28 km depth, registered 6.3 on the Richter Scale, the second immediate quake at 11:26am registering 5.2 was located in the same area but at a 25 km depth. At 3:04pm the ground shook again, in the same location, this time at a 22 km depth and registering 5.8, according to the Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

The Cruz Roja (Red Cross) reported calls from all over the Southern Zone and the Central Valley. The calls were for reports of minor damage and no casualties. The quakes were described as "strong and long" and quickly brought images of the January 8 quake that left 23 dead and thousands homeless. In San Jose a number of downtown buildings were quickly evacuated. Officials of the OVSICORI said that the despite the the magnitude of the earthquake, it was not devastating because of its depth. The earthquake was originated for the crash between the tectonic plates of "Cocos" and "Panama".

I felt the 3:00pm one as I was sitting in the lobby of the Sleep Inn. On the overstuffed chairs it was actually a pleasant ride.

CR averages almost 4000 "quakes" a year. The majority are so minor they barely cause a seismographic ripple.

Has not effect the HDR price in the 14 year history of the place.

:D :D :D Can not believe it :!:   I get to correct ID    . HDR opend in 1993; Sept or Oct. I believe. That makes it "15 + year history of the place"   . But you are right in that the earthquakes do not seem to have effected the prices

Two more quakes today. The first a little inland from the ones yesterday was reported by the USGS as 4.9 and the second in the gulfo dulce near the two yesterday was a 5.1.

The Costa Rican seismograph people tend to show the quakes intensity a bit higher then the USGS.
