Hello Lemon Drop Kidd,

We have no record of you or your group ever staying at Sportsmens Lodge. If this is true it suggests that this was a straight late cancellation. If we are wrong please fax your check-out statement to us at Sportsmens Lodge 011-506-2222-6702 and I will strongly consider making an adjustment to your account.

Thanks,

Bill

Lemondrop dont give up on the Sportsmens without at least a Email to Bill. I witnessed Bill lock up rooms for people and get burned time and time again with no shows. One time even for a CRT labor day party. I belive his policy is fair and just needed even if he is doing well now it did not happen overnight. Tell him your story you never know.

My mistake, after re-reading your original post I see that you stated that you cancelled your entire stay, therefore you would not have a check out statement. I apologize. Manfred and my Manager Carlos explained to me the following cancellation fee that was charged.

The reservation was for a Junior Suite 3 nights at $99+ taxes and for a Standard Deluxe at $89+ taxes also for three nights. After your call on the night before your scheduled arrival with the cancellation, we charged you for the less expensive room $89 x 3 = $267 which is less than the stated policy calls for of 1/2 of the entire stay. I will be glad to discuss this with you personally during your next trip to Costa Rica and perhaps work something out with you.

Thanks,

Bill

which I inform him when I book the room it was already within the 72 hours. why charge me $ 267 for Monday?

$267 a night for two rooms? Screw that as far as I`m concerned, would never have had a reservation there to start with.... Each to his own. If you didn`t give a 72 hour notice with the cancellation then sounds like by the rules you owe something for the Monday.

How dare Bill come onto this thread and be " just as reasonable" as everyone said he would be. See? Some things happen just as predicted. Now....back to our regularly scheduled mongering.

By the rules they could have been charged for Monday(80+90) for making the change then keeping their reservation which would have given them the chance to work it out. But having canceled the entire three nights it left them liable for half the entire balance of three nights. So the $267 you see is three nights for the least expensive of the two reservations.

Exactly TicaFan, if they had kept their cool and accepted the rooms and rate Bill would undoubtedly have worked with them until everyone was satisfied.

I think this is a good lesson on CR for everyone. Often the guy you are talking to is not the guy who has the authority to do what you want done. If you politely go up the chain of command things can get worked out. The key is to stay calm and reasonable.

Might sound harsh but I have to deal with cancellations... Make your flight plans and make sure of them before booking hotel... If you have to change flights eat it like a man.. If the airline causes it bust their balls at customer service.

A similar thing happened to me.

I booked a flight for 6am from Chicago with one stop, to arrive at SJO at 2pm. I got on board and we couldn't take off because the captain's mic didn't work. An incompetant UAL staff could't care less about connecting flights. For 3 hrs. they kept on telling us that we would be taking off shortly.

Finally afer 3 hrs. they let us off. By then I missed my connecting flight and and I couldn't get another flight to SJO till 8pm. Plus this flight had to go thru LA and I didn't get to SJO till 9am the next day.

This meant I lost a night at SL, but I could't care less about being compensated by SL. It was not their fault. I called them and and they were great. I am just glad they held the room. I had one of the best 3 days stays I have ever had. Bill was great when I talked to him. I asked for no favors. When I left I paid for all 4 days.

The only problem was, I was so beat after being up nearly 2 days to get there, I wasn't myself. I was too hyped to get much sleep in my room , because I knew what I was there for. To stay awake, I had to keep walking around unless there was a chica available. I was scared I might fall asleep on the bar. Ah---but when the chicas were there, that gave me energy, and even if it was 3 days instead of 4, it was all well worth it.

I love SL. It's now the only place I want to stay in C.R. In the mean time I am fighting with UAL for reinbursement. They are the ones at fault. So far the have just given me a flight voucher for $100 with a lot of disqualifications, but I am working for more.

But I can't hold SL responsible for a flight screw-up. Their rooms are in demand. I know places that would give away your room for a week scheduled stay, if you were a day late. In this case when I got to SL I just wanted to be at SL.

I've always enjoyed the SL, and found the staff very accommodating. Once, I left my safe open all day, with cash and passport inside. When I returned, hours later, after maid service, everything was still there, and I don't think the maid was blind. You won't find many places like that.

I have been forced to cancel my reservation at the SL on three occasions over the past three years, always at least 72 hours ahead of time. They have never charged me a penny for this. I feel their policy for late cancellations is reasonable and clearly stated.

I have learned as a stand by flyer I do not make a reservation I can not change without penalty. This summer I made a reservation on Sansa to fly over to Quepos. Our plane got caught in a thunder storm in Atlanta and we were 1 1/2 hours late getting in to San Jose. We missed our flight and lost our money. Had to catch a taxi over. I went against my rule and had to pay. I made a reservation from the Albany airport for a hotel in Saratoga. When I got to the motel I spotted a small one across the street for $ 100 less per night. I called the Best Western and told them I did not want the room I had reserved 30 mins. before. I had a hard time getting it off my card because the motel had a cancel policy. The only thing that saved me was they did not disclose it when I made my res. So if the SL disclosed the policy on the phone when you called you are liable. If they took your res. and did not tell you about the cancel policy you have a case. This is what I have went thru with Master Card. Although it may be stated on the web site if you made your res. by phone it must be stated to you on the phone about any cancellation fees. If you make the res. by email it is stated on the web site and they can enforce it.Have a great day H.

But if you did infact make the booking within the 72hour zone, and then had to make some changes ( I mean you still ended up staying there ), and they charged you the fee then thats shit for business practice.

Its the Sportsman Lodge, not friggin Priceline.

I'm sorry do you want to be charge 4 days? X 2 rooms? only staying for 3 night? what kind of Idiot would do that
I'm half on your side here LDK, but policy is policy. You'll never win posting this as many of these guys are SL regulars & supporters. :o I think you were lucky enough to get a reservation you should have just chalked it up to experience and stayed. :D I've pretty much given up to staying there as the regulars have the rooms locked down 6 months before any special parties or get togethers. I've tried so many times to book a room 3 months out and never got lucky enough so I have given up on the SL :( If you think your SL experience was bad just wait to you book by phone at the Morazon.
