i golf regularly in cr. i travel into town and play in ranking tournaments and the countries match play and metal play amateur events. there are a handfull of options in st. jose, 9 and 18 hole. if you are wanting to play with some people, you might want to look into the cvga, think it stands for central valley golf association and they have a web site run by david maddox. on tuesday every week, they get together and mostly play at valley del sol in sant ana. large group 30-50 each tues. valley is your best bet as it is a public or semi private place. monteran is the next public place, a nine hole all par 3 course with the best greens in cr. they have a standing thur skins game that begins around 9am. costa rica country club (9hole), carrari (18 hole) are both private clubs, but if you meet one of the members who belong to cvga or you just contact them, you might get out to play. best to use caddies and walk, but you can ride at most places but costa rica country club. there are also nice courses at the four seasons and marriott resorts. another course at an all inclusive beach resorts name escapes me, but they hold the costa rica open, the countries only professional event.

SeaRay460 is correct about cvga's name and here's the Website:

www.thecvga.com

From an '07 post comes the advice thatat least at Valle del Sol, bring your own balls, glove and tees--everything else is rentable.
Marriott's Lost Iguana course is beautiful if not particularly challenging--it's about 5 or so miles north of Jaco in Playa Herradura. Mandatory cart rental and it's somewhat pricey, as befits a resort course.
By "Searching" here, I came up with this non-member-viewable link:

www.costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16260

And of course Googling "Golf in Costa Rica" will pay dividends.

This is probably the all inclusive beach resort course that SeaRay460 was referring to.

http://www.costaricagolfclassic.com/index.php

I played there for the first time about 5 years ago when the hotel was called Melia Playa Conchal. I also played there last year and it’s still a great course. Keep in mind that this course is at sea level so I can get very hot. At Valley del Sol the heat is not as bad in my opinion very comfortable.

I will be in town the two days you mentioned. I have a commitment on Sunday but maybe we can hook up for Monday. Where are you staying?

I'm staying at HLA. Is it better to rent a car and play near Jaco or take a cab? Are you free on Saturday? If anything changes on Sunday keep me in mind. Little side bet and make things little interesting.
Thank you.

Thanks, if by easy you mean hittin' the ball 3 times before you catch up to my tee shot, then cool. 8)

LOL ... Nicely said. Would love to play with you in September but I'll be playing in Tennessee Mountains. So is it better to rent a car while I'm down there or take a cab? Planning on playing on Valle del sol and La Iguana. I do like to play Hacienda Pinilla JW course, only thing is four hour drive according to the site.
Hope get to meet you some day.

Sorry but Saturday I’m committed most of the day as well. Hopefully I’ll end up at the SL for happy hour though.

As far as renting a car that’s up to you hiring a van with a driver may be cheaper than you think. I know guys that swear by both options. If you just want to go to Jaco to play golf other than the Marriott course you may be a little disappointed. If you read the board then you know the night life is good there.

I am not at all fimillar with the Hotel HLA

There is a guy a few threads down asking for info about the Ramada Herradura. To bad you are not staying there because as a guest of that hotel you are also a guest of the Cariari Country Club. IMHO that is the best course in the country.

I’m sure everything will workout fine.

Best of luck
