I boarded my flight to SJO earllier today( 2/20) from ORD, but the UAL flight did not take off for over 3 hours because of tech problems. AS a result I got off because my connection flight in Charlotte had already left. The staff was so uncommuntative we did not know what was going on until it was too late. They kept telling us we're almost ready.

I booked a much later flight but I am going to miss a day. This sucks. I am wondering--does this happen often? I saw online earlier this week ORD is considered the worst aiport in the country.

I fly out of O'Hare several times a month to various places in the US and around the globe. Lack of communication is my pet peeve. I've grown to expect delays, cancellations and every other type of Phuck up but...I can't stand when the airlines don't let you know what's up.

Don't think O'Hare is the problem...they all suck. I can tell you stories about San Fransisco, Tokoyo, San Jose, etc...etc...

No, but not too far off...

I fly UAL weekly, made well over 100k miles last year with them, and I still have to sit in economy on almost every flight...

On continental I barely scraped in 60k miles, and I fly 1st class on almost every flight...

Same with TACA (except out of JFK for some reason).

I even get bumped more often on AA than I do on UAL... and I just did 26k miles with them...

go figure...

I was a 1K flyer with UAL over 12 consecutive years. I changed jobs and they stopped flying to SJO; between those two reasons and a couple of others, I switched over to Continental.

I would never go back to UAL. My experience has been much the same as the QuickBlueFox -- even though I was a million miler on UAL, there were many occasions when I would not get upgraded.

I would rather fly Continental in coach than UAL first. And if the only choice were American Airlines, I would not go. They are worst of the worst.

I am close to 100K but typically use the miles before I get there but I am always put in economy plus and regardless of when I check in online I getting seating 1. If I have any complaint it is that when using miles to fly they have many dates blocked and the flights I can get are wacko like flying from San Diego to Dulles for a 3 hr layover before connecting to Houston. New meaning to YMMV!

Now I am back and I would like to know if anybody knows about cancellation reimbursements. They rebooked me a day later but I still lost a day . This flight was booked thru a discount site. The airline has offered me a $100 flight voucher, with several disqualifications . I wonder if anybody knew a way of getting real compensation. I doubt if there is much of a chance but if anyone knew I would give it a try.
