Eden is great if you have your own car. But I have always been charged an extra fee for taxi pickup/dropoff. I don't know why, and I haven't been able to get a straight answer from anyone about it.
At first I thougth it was a scam, but I've taken taxis there from other places and was still charged the fee, and they don't charge it going to any other hotel.
I thought it was a scam too as well but if you have the same taxi drop you off and pick you up the total taxi entry fee is 5000 colones.
I could never get a straight answer on this either.
My only guess would be that all taxis get a 5000 commission if they bring a client in upon their suggestion. So the taxi drivers are just collecting this 5k for themselves because it makes no sense that if you have your own car you pay nothing, also I have heard some people say they did not pay this 5K commission when they knew the cab driver well. Like the mad german I have heard too many different stories its confusing.
My conclusion: when you go there the cabbies will try to abuse you....
One time I went there and on the way there was charged the normal maria rate and on the way back the asssshole tried to charge me 12k for commission, I told him all I had was 3k and that was way more than the maria charges and he got mad and I just left the cab and kept walking telling him to go get the police fine by me. I dont go there any more because of the taxi hastle. Its been a few years since I have been there so maybe they have changed that fuuuuucked up policy.
It was not until this place that I really started resenting the ripofff taxi drivers.
To resolve my taxi problem I found one that I like and used him consistently. I even bought an ipod for this taxi driver that gave good service. He paid me half what it would cost for the Ipod here. Since then he still gives good service but he raised his rates more than the other drivers....did he give me a break...no, even the good ones do not remember the favors you do for them. All in all Im disgusted by the taxi drivers here compared to Colombia and other parts of the world
