This restaurant has always been one of my favorite places to get a steak dinner, usually costing about $20. I stopped there this evening and was disappointed. The price was way up [$24] and the quality was way down. Service was poor, despite the fact that there were no more than 10 other customers in the restaurant. I was wondering what the waiter would do if they were busy. Unfortunately, it will most likely be the last time I eat there.

Don't let one night of bad service stop you from going... 2 in a row on the other hand...

Wasn't only the bad service that was a turn off. Much more expensive, and the steak was thinner, smaller and tougher.

Hmmm. I wonder if we might not be seeing the effect of the economy. It was reported that tourism $$ were down 20% last year and CR is experiencing double digit inflation. The number of tourists hasn't fallen much but the amount of money that they are spending is way down. It will definately have an impact on places like Nuestra Tierra.

It crossed my mind that I was seeing the trickle down of the poor U.S. economy. Usually, Nuestra Tierra is packed with groups of eco-tourists. Didn't see it this time.

phucking hate ecotourists!

We may not like the eco-tourists but they have been fueling the tourisim industry in CR for years. Sure, we drop plenty of coin here too but we are just a small portion of the tourists who come here. And the eco-tourists aren't banging their da*ghters!

While the number of tourists hasn't fallen, many of them, instead of staying in deluxe eco-lodges and eating gourmet, are now staying in hostels and eating in the sodas.

A side effect may be that the P4P industry can gain a bit of credibility and keep the wolves away from phucking with the laws.

I've been there about four times and had three great experiences and one so-so. The food is a little pricey for SJ standards, but not the end of the world. It's a fun place to go with a group.

If ever there is a tourist trap, Nuestra Tierra is it.

I find the place completely revolting and sadly, it doesn't do any justice to real Tico cusine.

The only saving grace is that it's open 24 hours, but that's about it.

It's open 24 hours, alternatively going next to the Del Mar being open those hours there are not many options.

Chellas and Manolos, both open 24/7, are a far better choice IMO than either the Del Mar or Nuestra Tierra.

I will try to find that out for you, at the time I was there it was late and with a friend of the owner and there was no live music at 1AM. We just hung out and had fun drinking and eating. I will say though, it is a great place with or without music.
