Sorry, you're right. I phucked up. Won't do it again. Never talk about religion or politics, a rule that I usually live by.

NYG:

I am willing to give a new President a chance but the politicians in congress, both parties, are scaring me with this new trillion $$ stimulus package. It is about 12 to 20% stimulus and the rest pork spending, special interest, earmarks and the kitchen sink.

Don't forget, there is another trillion package in the hopper following this one. These people are crazy.

Japan tried to stimulize their economy in the 1990's with 6 different packages and it did not work.

Talk about inflation and the fall of the dollar.....it's coming.

Normally, recessions last from 6 to 10 months and the free economy works out the bad with the good. But now politicians are really rolling the dice at our expense.

This is not political finger pointing....it includes all the crooks in Washington. They are the ones that phucked up the economy with their screwing up the lending institutions to begin with and now they are going to save it.....shit no.

Mark my words, if passed, this will begin the downfall of what has been the greatest country in the world and fascist policies will spread like a cancer.

No, this is not political. It's a cry from a taxpayer and one who loves the freedom this country had given it's citizens.

This country hasn't "given" us ANY freedoms--they were they were torn from the grip of the Elite and it's been that way from Day 1.
Now y'all please end the politico/socio/economic discussions here or I'm liable to get all inflammatory and that will invite Admin1's righteous retribution. <30>

That is great MD but get the facts correct:

One all the pork is gone that is how he got the 3 republican votes

Two the Japan crisis was a misguided use of money. They had 10 different spending bills in 10 years and never a bill big enough to make an impact. Also they never invested in their future economy just the present. All building rail lines but not any job creation besides that. Or any getting away from mid eastern oil.

Gentlemen,

I say we give Obama a break. Anyway, I met the guy once, and, um, lets just say it was a Michael Phelps kinda moment. Anyway, I voted for the other guy but he deserves a chance.

The following link backs up Brother NYG's assertions about Japan in the '90's 100%. Essential reading about parallels between the current situation and theirs. As to any arguments about allocating resources especially to social spending as stimulus, the article Para. # 22 (it start with "Japan's experience seems to argue...") says definitively that social spending is stimulus and one of the best kinds.

www.nytimes.com/2009/02/06/world/asia/06japan.html
NB The bridge in the picture is not in Alaska but it might as well be. Useless, and wasted use of scarce money.

The government keeps sending good money after bad.

Why can’t they cut each of the items in this bill in half and then review the benefits after one year. Also, there are a number of items that should be removed entirely.

What is the $10 billion for Science facilities?? Until we receive a better delineation of what this is, remove it from the bill.

You’ve probably heard some of the wasteful spending hidden in this “economic stimulus bill”, so here is a list of some of the most questionable expenditures in the bill although I believe one was omitted yesterday.

1. $600 million for government fleet vehicles
2. $650 million for digital TV converter box coupons
3. $ 21 million to re-sod the Washington monument National Mall
4. Millions spent for safe sex programs in schools
5. $41 billion: Grants to local school districts
$79 billion: State fiscal relief to prevent cuts in state aid
$21 billion: School modernization ($15.6 billion to increase the Pell grant by $500; $6 billion for higher education modernization) Sorry, that's for the teacher's union...not to stimulate the economy.
$20 billion: Modernization of health-information technology systems
$4.1 billion: Preventative care
$20 billion to increase the food stamp benefit by over 13% in order to help defray rising food costs.
4.1 billion for Acorn....I hope you know just what these folks do.

And did you know the majority of illegal aliens will be included in many of the above billions?

Again, until we receive detailed list of what is in the $31 billion for construction and repair of federal buildings and other public infrastructure, get rid of it. In my home, I need to do a lot of repair on it but I don’t have sufficient funds in my budget to pay for it, so I go without. And I would like to build a new home with all the newest energy efficient things built in, but again, it is not in my budget. And I'm certainly not going to go out a get a new mortgage that I cannot afford. The government needs to do the same.

Cut out the $79 billion for state fiscal relief to prevent cuts in state aid. The states need to look at their tax revenues coming in and only spend what they have, just like the majority of the middle class does. My gosh, a number of states like California and New York have thrown money into the wind. California loves to send illegals to college and pay their medical expenses. They are now talking about releasing thousands of prison criminals because the may not have good health care....give me a break.

Also, I am not in favor of the government taking over providing health insurance for everyone. Talk about a disaster on the horizon.

What this bill will create is an entire country looking for handouts. Everyone is expecting the government to provide them a good house that can hold their 50″ screen TV, and a garage to hold their caddy, free health care.

I worked my way through college, along with scholarships and loans. Other people can do that too. But they don’t want to. It is too much work.

I work hard for my income and now all of it and all of my grand Ch*ldren’s income will go to pay for a better lifestyle for people who refuse to work. What is happening to the good morals our country was founded on.

Pretty soon there won’t be anyone working, because the government handouts are so big. But then, who will be paying the taxes to support the handouts?

I've only scratched the surface because it is difficult to get a full copy of the bill they passed. How many senators and reps do you think have really read this bill.....very few I would submit. Many of the spending programs are so general, they can be used for many pet projects....can we say earmarks?

Bush threw over 350 billion to the finance corporations / banks and we don't even know where it went. The other 350 billion he approved is going to be dealt out by our new income tax cheater in the next few months.

None of the mainstream news media even questions this bill. Have you seen any experts called up to dissect the bill.....NO, Obama's their man.

I've emailed and called many congressmen and and some senators yet get no reply or a overloaded answering system. They don't care except for those who are free economy thinkers.

As a taxpayer for over 40 years I am appalled at the recklessness and speed in which they are piling trillions of debt on us. Doesn't it bother some of you?????

Again, this is not political. It's a fight for survival.

I agree 100% I don't care what party is pushing this . It is wrong.

I worked 40 hours a week and went to college. Now I am expected to pay more taxes to support a "lay-about" who doesn't want to work.

Mad as Phuck

Fresh off the AP news:
Dow drops 4%

Boards on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange in New York Reuters – Boards on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange in New York, February 10, 2009. REUTERS/Eric Thayer …

NEW YORK – Investors are frustrated with the government's latest bank bailout plan — and showed it by unloading stocks.

The major stock indexes fell more than 4 percent Tuesday, including the Dow Jones industrial average, which tumbled 382 points. Financial stocks led the market lower, a sign of how concerned Wall Street is about the government's ability to restore the health of the banking industry. Demand for safe havens like Treasury's and gold rose.

Traders and investors complained about what they saw as a lack of specifics from Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on how the government will direct more than $1 trillion in public and private support to the financial system.

The plan is aimed at restoring proper functioning to credit markets, which seized up over worries about bad debt after the September bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. The latest plan calls for a government-private sector partnership to help remove banks' soured assets from their books. It would also boost an effort to unclog the credit markets that govern loans to consumers and businesses.

"The good news is they are going to spend a trillion dollars, the bad news is they don't know how," said James Cox, managing partner at Harris Financial Group.

"They built this up as being a panacea," he said. "There was so much hope pinned on them to do a good job. The expectations have been so high. It's hard to live up to."

Muledick:

The financial markets know a lemon when they see it.

Just wait until Obama revises a tax that congress was seriously considering in the 1990's. That was a 15% plus tax on your retirement holdings. Yep, and mark my word. They are going to do it and you won't be able to do anything about it. Democracy is a two edge sword. When the have-nots out number the haves, those who have accumulated liquidity will be forced to surrender a portion of it to those who have not.

I can just hear the nays out there. I'm serious.

What really irks me is our President continuously speaks doom and gloom. He is so negative and never gives hope to the country. FDR, JFK and Reagan all had bad economies to address but they spoke with positive attitudes and gave American the feeling of hope and support. This man gives none. He only lashes out at the previous administration. Yea, the previous one sucked in many ways but get over it. Give us a positive message and quit dwelling on the past.

This is an agenda driven admin and it is headed for a train wreck with all of us in the first cars.

Man, I am tired of this rightwingnut bullshit. What, you wanted four more years of the catastrophe fear-monger party wasting our money and lives so that Big Oil and Halliburton get richer?

Muledick, just because you don't get it does not mean that it is not right. If you want to shit on the President, go to one of those rightwing moron sites. There are plenty of them.

Dios, I hope that gets this thread locked. If not I will let you know what I really think (SINCE WE HAVE DECIDED TO SHITCAN THE FORUM RULES).

Obama didn't take tree weeks to show what his true colors are , Why did he let Reid and Pelosi write the bill in the first place. He says no earmarks are in the bill, what turnip truck does he think the American public fell off of.
