Lets just talk about economics.

We need to cut taxes to build growth.

What good are tax cuts when there are no workers paying taxes?
Unemployment nearing double digits makes me think we need something more than tax cuts to get things going.

What would work? That is beyond my pay grade.

It has worked every time it was tried.

I don't know about you but the 28% I have to pay does not seem very low.

But maybe you work for the government and do not pay taxes like some nominees

I understand we are not supposed to talk about politics so why are you bringing up the fall out of the Clinton pump and dump internet economy ?

For god's sake .......let the free market with stimulus in the right areas make the call. I cannot believe this madness....
It seems to me that the unfettered free market, especially poorly regulated lending practices, has ALREADY been leading to this nation's demise. Clearly we have to do something different from what we've been doing or our demise really is certain. I don't know if this stimulus plan will manage to turn things around or not. But I do know that this sort of negative thinking and doomsaying certainly won't help shake the current mood that is insuring our death spiral as much as anything else. I can go on with more such platitudes as well as any of you guys but simplistic solutions aren't the answer to the complex problems we face either.

As for political discussions, I don't think economic discussions are much different in times like these. And this isn't a free speech issue either. Anyone is free to discuss politics OR economics or anything else any place ELSE they want. The reasons for the Admin restricting POLITICAL discussions on THIS board is to avoid the acrimony and discord that normally inevitably follows from such discussions. Its not a "freedom of speech" issue. Its a "keep the peace" issue. If you want to discuss politics (or even economics) there are plenty of OTHER places where one can go to do it and I think most of us have seen what such forums are often like. This forum is for discussing COSTA RICA and TICAS and it is composed of a bunch of collegial guys who can joke around and get along. Let's try to keep it that way and if ANYONE absolutely HAS to make posts that are virtually GUARANTEED to stir up heated opposition and which don't have even the PRETENSE of having anything to do with the stated purpose of this board, then I hope they DO leave and make those posts elsewhere.

I had a blistering Post prepared to counter some of the stuff I read here but in light of Brother Prolijo's call for calmness, won't. If anybody wants to read it, PM me and I'll send it along. I don't anticipate too many requests.
However, any discussion of the economic stimulus package(s) should start with a close reading of this article about Japan's experience in the '90's. Their problems and solutions are not totally an analogue to the present situation but assuredly food for thought.

OK, no politics. I'm just going to say one thing. Bush was arguably the worst president in the history of the union. Some say, "At least he kept us safe," at which time I go into uncontrolled puking, since 9/11 happened 9 months into his watch. Over 4000 young men slaughtered in his war, and countless others missing limbs and worse. Christ, it's sickening. We won't think about the numbers of innocent carnage on the other side in Iraq. No, they're faceless. It was a bone-headed venture and the masses are asses because we elected him twice. And if you liked his war policy, then you'll love his economics. And people are now taking issue with SPENDING and BORROWING, like that's a big phuckin' deal? After what we've been through??? After the money we POURED down the drain?

Give me a @^&%! break!!

Rules in here are mutable.
We really do need a political forum here. This would give ID a chance to reach 10,000 post in one week.
