Excuse my ranting... :x
Myself and wingmen are planning a trip to SJ in late Jan09. Wing1 contacts the Presd and gets varying rates for all 3 of us and a weekend surcharge.. I understand the rates are increasing for 09. WHY the inconsistency??? Now the "frequent visitor" rate discount. 11 nights or more. WTF.......Wing 1 gets the best rate. Well guess what, both my wingmen stayed a total of three times in 08 totaling over 21 days. I get pissed and call down , now I get an even better rate. Now my wingmen are pissed and are looking to stay eleswhere. As of today they 're looking at the S.L. and Amistad. Hotels.com has abundantly better rates around town, Balmoral has rate of 59.00 a nite.

The world is in a recession, I don't expect the rates to stay the same for all the hotels, but why the dramatic rate increase in some of the not 3 three star places???? You know who I'm talking about.
I guess this is a nitch market and the attitude is "F" the gringo.
Well guess Tico businessmen, I was planning on going down to C.R. three times this coming year, but now I'm going to look at Columbia, Peru and Panama.
One of our group went to Panama in August, came back and says the prices are cheaper, both for the hotels, chica and food.

NOW..... I feel better

Lots of sympathy here. I call it taking a emotional dump. Ahhhhh! Now hopefully it is it’s all better.

Word of caution: Don’t try to use logic or a sense of fairness in a logic & fairness adverse culture.

The food may be cheaper, the chicas are more unless you are connected but the hotels are definetly much more expensive.

Yes Flacoduro, it seems absurd but this is a Latin country we are talking about. The President is like all lodging businesses, they don't change tactics unless their occupancy goes down. This apparently hasn't happened. The chicas are the same way in the long run. But hell, there is an abundance of hotels in SJ and I have never had a problem finding a good rate. Staying in the gulch, as referred to here, is not a requirement with me.

A two to three thousand colone cab ride is not a deal breaker. An yes, you are right about Panama not to mention much less in other Latin countries.

IMHO: phuck the phucking Presidente. I had the Master suite, with a huge jacuzzi in it and they would only allow 1 chica at a time. WTF?? :!:
It is my room, while I am paying for it, and as long as nothing is destroyed, I don't see the problem. Plus, why the phuck rent such a room with such stoopid restrictions. Just like the phucking Holiday Een, there are plenty of other hotels, who just love our money.

That is exactly the point. The Presidente has made the decision that our money is not that important to them. Every business makes decisions on how they feel they can maximize revenue and profits.

In San Jose some hotels are chica friendly, some chica tolerant and some chica hostile. That is their right and you have a right to patronize those that you feel best meet your needs and not patronize those that you feel do not meet your requirements.

Amen to that. Although I have enjoyed stays there, I absolutely do not care for their cavalier attitude. I say that as a negative and not being gentlemen.

I would avoid staying at the hotel el Presidente. Very overrated and not at all friendly. I think they hate tourist, and do not even think about bringing a Chica back to your room.

They don't "hate" tourists. They wouldn't survive without tourists. Hotel Presidente is trying to become a high-class, family friendly hotel.

They are becoming a family hotel; had breakfast there the other day and observed many female eco tourists in shorts and tops with fat coming out at every angle. It is lot more pleasing looking at most Delrey girls.
They took our money for years and now our $'s will go elsewhere.

I do agree that they look at us with disdain. And in some instances, I can totally see why. On the other hand they are located right smack in the middle of it and have money b/c of it. And I think they are trying to peg who is a monger and deter from staying. They tell me they are booked when they have always "had a special room for me." I don't know. I know I gotta try somewhere else but I just like it anyway. The rooms are awesome and my stuff is safe.

Who knows where I'll end up.
