No passport no entry. You must have a passport to get your visa stamp. Don't matter what country you are from. Without the passport he won't even be allowed to board the plane to Costa Rica. If you live in a place that has a consulate for his country they can help him out. If not, you need to contact the embassy which will be located in DC.

even though he has it and its only expired??? and a valid green card, green cards are useless, just america using immigrants for those 600 dollars... so you can not get a visa stamp on an expired passport?

To enter Costa Rica he not only has to have an unexpired passport it must have at a minimum 90 days of validity remaining.

You can have a new passport within the hour if your case is severe enough. Sadly a whoring trip to CR is not severe.

But most countries do offer a 24 hour service for an additional fee. Also offer random other ones like 3 day or 1 week.

None the less a passport only takes 2 weeks to get in Canada so I have never needed any of that stuff.

Green cards useless? Not really, people around the world would pay good money to have one, the difference is that those people understand the real value of a Permanent Resident Card. The virtue of having one is that it will allow you to be accepted back into the country and most country would allow you to visit them without having to apply for a visitor's visa.
If you're an American, I understand your ignorance but your immigrant friend should know better.
As for those giving advice about how fast you can get a passport, don't forget that it's not an American or Canadian passport, but a passport from an (unnamed) Eastern European country.
If your friend want to travel, tell him to act pronto. I hope you'll enjoy your trip!

first off to clear the air I as well am an immigrant, you on the other hand do not sound like one which may be deceiving, all resident cards allow you to do is to work and pay taxes in the us...I understand your redneck background therefore I must inform you that during the first five years of living in the us one is a useless statistic. People such as my friend and myself are bosnian immigrants that had to fight through ravaging
circumstances to even be allowed to partake in the learning of the english language, let alone be considered a regular american....

furthermore, i asked a simple question, therefore no lengthy answer was
required on your part...green cards are useless for any country from which one immigrates is 99% going to be a third world country that is not part of the E.U., therefore not being allowed any true rights of travel. I hope my clarification is not lost on you as I have spent two minutes typing this...If any further explanation is needed please pm me as I will not conduct myself in any further forum battle.

sorry about my ignorance

thank you

Toodles, Gypsy was not insulting you or your friend. I think you will find that the guys on here are far from the redneck type. That is a benefit of world travel. These guys are a far more cosmopolitan group than you probably run into into in the US on a regular basis.

Your friend needs to contact the Bosnian embassy pronto to try to get a replacement as fast as possible. You have to have a passport with at least 90 days until expiration to get into Costa Rica. There has even been trouble with some gate attendants that won't let you on the plane if your passport is in less than perfect condition.

Just know that the guys here are not trying to keep you out of CR or anything like that. They welcome anyone that shares a common interest and is looking to have a good time.

thanks for the first welcome

he just irked me a bit...and he misquoted spanky to begin with

its people with his tone and attitude that i feel told me to go back where i came from back in 1998, when i was 14, things like that one does not forget, even though i barely knew english then, i still knew the meaning with ease
i thought it was unnecessary...its like i was talking to homeland securuty

No Spanky, it was that toodles guy who said that. Your name just got entangled in there as I didn't remove you from the quote. Sorry

Without a valid passport, he won't even be able to leave the US. An expired passport is as good as a blank piece of paper that I write my name on with a crayon and call it my passport.

The greencard allows him to re-enter the U.S. Without that "useless" () little card, your pal would be returning to his Eastern European country, instead of the US, on his way back from Costa Rica.
