Monday night I was taking the lady I mentioned in my report from the BM to the Prez.

She didn't want to walk and insisted on a taxi (it's a long story). I walked outside to the waiting taxi and asked how much to the Prez. He replied, "1000". I had a pocket full of coins and reached in and said, "Here is 700."

He tried to make a big deal out of it but I added, "it's only 2 blocks and you'll be back here in 2 minutes".

He took the money but was still bitching to my date about it when we got to the Prez. I don't know what all he said but I was pretty sure it was about me and she confirmed that he was still complaining.

I've been ripped off by taxi drivers in San Jose before and made sure I asked before I got into any if them this trip.

Maybe if he had looked like her he would have gotten the other 300c.

I was one of the members of Admin's group that went to L'Ancora. I had forgotten that we all did indeed pay with cash.
We were a party of 10 so while the place was pretty deserted I expected it would take a while. Probably took about half an hour or so to get appetizers and another half hour to get the entrees.
For me it was a good time to just let the whole experience soak in and witness the camaraderie of long time board members.
The waiter had some problems with dealing with the whole crew but I thought he did a decent job and definitely earned his tip.
What struck me the most wasn't the food but how the owner/chef greeted our group. This guy wants our business. At the end of the meal, he gave each of us a big hug and sent us on our way. Perhaps this is a Central American custom but I thought it was way beyond my expectations.

I've been with Admin1 and cronies on several occasions, and we have never had a problem. You have to remember as well, no matter who you associate yourself with, if you are a gringo or appear to have a little cash, there is always a chance to get hustled, no matter how miniscule or large the denomination is.

Best bet, is always, always, ask upfront what things cost.
