We are hoping to bring our own Ticas to
Domincal for one or two nights in two weeks. I found several hotels with mixed reviews in Dominical.
What we are really looking for is a Hotel with a bar, pool, that has a view of the ocean.
Your input is appreciated.
Thanks a million

P.S. To future archivists and Thread dumpster divers--Az took the avatar picture down but Lord have mercy! that Latina was so fine! Explaining my opening line...

From the Website, I agree heartily with Brother BT--Kind of place you want to take a floatplane to. However be aware that the rooms are non-smoking--I guess it would be OK on the balcony.

Thanks guys - I checked out the website - looks great. I think we will try it out. For two people to a room the rate is not bad!

I took the avatar pic out - can anyone help me make it legal for the board and where to put in my profile.

Thanks

Getting excited - 9 days...whoaaaa

Suggestion: While your down there drive about 15 - 20 km south on the Costanera and check out Playa Ventanas. It's a GREAT beach.

Another Dominical option is the Roca Verde. Nice pool, right on the Pacific, great Yanqui owners (brothers from NYC) who know how to run a good hotel. The bar/restaurant is very good. Even if you stay at Cuna, definitely check out the bar at Roca Verde. Every Saturday night is disco night there, and girls from all over S. Puntarenas province show up. :D

Roca Verde is well-reviewed by the usual sources (Frommers, TripAdvisor) and the owners are very community-oriented, holding fund-raisers at the capacious restaurant, etc. Brother El Ciego found a good'un for you.

If you stay at the Roca Verde, you won't be able to sleep on it's disco night---so loud the walls shake, and it goes on quite late. But if your into hard rock at 0300, you might like it.

True. I could put up with it once a week, especially if I had a horizontal dance partner.

Interesting side-note: Until 2004, Dominical had no real life guard system for its beaches. Thanks to Richard and Diane Abraham, owners of the Cabinas Coconut Grove in Dominical and several other business owners, Dominical now has a decently-equipped and trained volunteer lifeguard group. Roca Verde hosts fundraisers for this group as well as for others.

Dominical is a strange community. Largely gringo expats and surfers, Dominical has a different feel than anyplace else in C.R.

Rentals are available all over, including but not limited to Tortilla Flats and Casa del Sol, both of which offer clean, basic cabinas. As mentioned, Coconut Grove rents cabins, and if you're discreet, BYO chicas are not a problem there. Coconut Grove also has a nice little swimming pool, cabins have A/C, and the place is well-maintained, although it lacks a bar/restaurant.

Two more notes about Dominical: One, you need a car. There are perhaps five taxi drivers in the town, and three of them have bad attitudes.

Another note. As has been noted, there's not P4P in Dominical to speak of, unless you're very discreet and have some Spanish. Better to BYO.

Dominical is a great jumping-off point for towns further down the coast, including Uvita, Ojachal , Playa Zancudo and even further south down to Golfito and Puerto Jiminez. It's a great place to unwind, enjoy some local culture and maybe score on a cute surfer chick from the U.S. or Europe.
