In the middle of planning a big bachelor party trip to Jaco and staying at Los Suenos Condo Rentals. Wanted to do something different and we have all been to Vegas too many times. Rented what looked like an awesome condo at Los Suenos that had plenty of room to party with the local talent. However, just read an email that said "six people max occupancy...strictly enforced." There are already six of us staying in the three bedroom condo. Are all our plans about to be destroyed? Is this really strictly enforced? Will some cash to the guard solve this problem? If money won't solve the problem, where can 6 guys from Jersey go to party after picking up the local talent?

For Jersey guy NYC8634--Try looking at a small hotel close to the action called Blue Palms. 2 different double-up room types (1 w/kitchen and added single bed). This venue has a pool also. $40 + 16.4% tax + $10 per chica fee. You may be able to work a deal on multiple rooms. Has the added virtue of allowing you to leave the major valuables at Los Suenos.
www.blue-palms.net nifty web site

Y'all have big fun in Jaco but be careful.

Thanks for the advice. Checked out the web site and the place looks like it will be fine. When you say "be careful"...anything specific we should worry about?

Hey NYC....Jazz's option is a good one if worried about your valuables.

If you are talking about the condos right there at the Marina, then don't worry about the 6 person max rule. I stayed there and it was never a problem bringing chicas back from the Beatle Bar. If I remember correctly, the guards take the cedula (ID) and keep it until the chicas go back in the morning or a couple hours later.

This helps you big time. We asked our guard to call us to make sure it was OK to let the girls go out. They will stop the taxista until you say it is OK. Great feature if you picked up a sticky fingered chica or one the re-negged on a deal. Lock up all your stuff in a side room or hide it somewhere creative, especially if you are pulling TLN's. Out of sight out of mind works wonders. Especially digital cameras or anything else that can fit in those purses. 8)

Have fun. Los Suenos is great. Are you guys fishing?

Just booked the boat yesterday and will be doing one full day fising trip. Hopefully, the rest of the Jaco trip will be filled with the type of action that I have been reading about since I found this site. I have been relaying the stories I have found here to the rest of the crew and the bar has been set for very high for this trip. We have been talking about the many uses for those huge condos by the marina. It would have been a major disappointment if the Los Suenos condo rentals strictly enforced a 6 person limit.

Sweet NYC. Just talked to my buddy and they bagged 8 marlin last week on a 1 day trip with some clients out of Los Suenos! Snagged a couple tuna and all the Dorado they wanted on the way back in.

Have fun and post a trip report when you get back!

This is our first trip to Costa Rica and the first deep sea fishing trip for all of us. Hopefully the only thing we catch that smells like fish will be pulled out of the ocean and not the Beatle Bar. I will definitely be posting a trip report upon our return.

BrotherNYC8634--As has been reported here (do a search for specifics), Jaco can be a dangerous town. Anything specific? Well, because it's a monger town, it attracts a street criminal element, who prey on the drunk and unwary. And because it's a "surfer" and monger town, lots of drugs flow through it. Not trying to raise unnecessary fears but a heightened awareness of your surroundings can keep you safer. There is or was a police substation operating out of a trailer on the main drag for a reason. This sounds like Chinese fortune-cookie wisdom--maybe some other Brothers can tighten the focus of this sub-topic?

Precautions to take:
-no jewelry or expensive watch, don't make yourself a target for the scum element
-don't walk around at night, use a taxi
-don't buy or accept any drugs from anybody
-watch out for pickpockets
-don't give any money to beggers, they will never leave you alone
-don't pick up (or even talk to) any street chicas- they are und***ge or banned from bars
-don't go to any chica's house
-hang with your wingman when out in public (safety in numbers)
-don't get sloppy drunk (you are asking for problems)

4 of us are going to Jaco 1-29 thru 2-8. staying at Clarita's hotel.
4 days of fishing booked and Superbowl party at Clarita's has a Miss Clarita contest. I went fishing here in Jan. 4 yrs ago and had 17 Sailfish in the boat for pictures and lost 3 or 4. Meet up for drinks if in town.

All of us have the New York/Jersey street sense that should prevent us from doing anything stupid. Well...at least...stupid enough to get us in serious trouble. No drugs. No separating. No expensive watches. Not carrying lots of cash. Etc. Clarita's is definitely one of the spots that we want to check out. After reading everything here, we're looking to make some memories and have plenty of stories to tell for years to come. Any other Jaco spots to recommend?

Hey Tsef, any chicas hanging out by the condos at the marina or do we have to make it down to Jaco for the most fun?

Depends on your game  P4P? I would say NO WAY at the marina. There were some HOT bartenders at the bar there at the end of the marina, forget the name.

No biggie, it is a 10 minute cab ride to BB, if that. The chicas will LOVE coming to the marina condos. Are you are renting or getting a golf cart with your condo rental? If you are, we just took the golf carts to the Los Suenos Marriott, parked them there. Went into the hotel travel desk and hooked up a van taxi for the group.

Great buffet breakfast at the Marriott. Pricey but has everything. The bar at the marina also serves breakfast before you hit the boat. The restaurants at the marina are pricey, but VERY good. There is also a bank, Scotia? I think, with an ATM right there also.

And to add to tips... don't by illegal things on the streets... Because it pisses off people living here. And bad things can happen to you if the wrong, or right, person sees this happening...

Most CR captains have agreed to stop taking fish out of the water for trophy pictures. They now take the picture while the fish is in the water at the side of the boat and then do the release.

Tico Times fishing column will no longer publishes pictures of trophy fish that have been taken with the fish out of the water.
