If the Amistad is available book it. They have the very comfortable memory foam beds. Good breakfast and good location. I stayed there last year and would stay there again. Amistad rooms IMO are a good value. Lots of positive reviews on the Amistad have been posted on here.

Why not take the Amistad. Nice place with a good rate and close to the SL.

Not sure why you are calling the Horseshoe. I know they talked about taking over a building close by and adding rooms but have not heard they ever followed through.

Inca Real could work as well as Castile or Maureccos

Amistad rates are now almost as high as Del Rey. I like the hotel but they are now overpriced.

Try Hotel Freebird. Its only about 3 blocks away from HDR. See my last trip report. I stayed there and loved it (especially the suites). Call Dennis at ph:+506.22.21.1150 / fax:+506.22.21.1143 or email him at info@hotelfreebird.com.

Say what?! A queen-bed room at normal $69 minus the 15% daily CRT discount is $58.65 or with the 25% weekly discount it's $51.75. Hardly "Del Rey prices". And the rooms aren't an old dump like some other places.

HikerTom, I was told by the hotel clerk that $69.00 is the CRT rate. I would not mind paying $58.00 for a room. But the Del Rey only charges $75.00 a night, that was my point that at $69.00 their rates are alsmost as high as the Del Rey.

Richard

Rack price for queen room deluxe is $69 BEFORE discount (15% daily, 25% weekly). We have rooms starting at RACK RATES of $60 before discounts.

And don't forget the Chica fee at the HDR (non-existent at La Amistad). Depending on how enthusiastic you are, the difference buys your food and some of the booze. Plus there is just no comparing the 2 venues on room ambiance. La Amistad vs. Castillo vs. Vesuvio vs. Dunn Inn makes sense (and even there you need to factor in fees and such)--all HDR has going for it is the action down the elevator. Period. I choose not to sleep on the hunting ground. But that's just me...
