Eric Mangini is out as head coach of the New York Jets, 1050 ESPN Radio and various other New York media outlets are reporting.

Mangini and the Jets missed out on the playoffs after losing to Miami on Sunday. The Jets lost four of their last five games to finish 9-7.

Jets owner Woody Johnson and general manager Mike Tannenbaum will appear at a 10 a.m. ET news conference. Mangini is not expected to attend.

Mangini, 37, was 23-26 in three seasons with the Jets, including 0-1 in the playoffs.

The Jets acquired Brett Favre before the season started and ran off to an 8-3 start. But losses to Denver, at San Francisco, at Seattle and Sunday to the Dolphins left New York on the outside of the playoffs for the second straight season.

The funny part was listening to Tannenbaum be asked about Cowher and the Tuna. He said, "It will be a comprehensive search." HA!! You don't really think that he is going to pursue either of those two. If he does, he is out of a job!

I would expect Parcells to opt out of his contract when Huizienga completes the Dolphins sale in January. Unless he really likes the new owners. Hey at least he got us Sparano, and pulled the trigger on the Pennington signing!

As a buddy said, I-95 brings all the NY'ers to Miami eventually.

Squish the fish or not?

We've been squishing fish for YEARS now...it's aleways a joy to go down to Joe Robbie and watch the despair, hopelessness and pain on the faces of Fin fans as their team falls apart in the second half! :D Fun to laugh at the R Williams jerseys too  Fun to drive back up the turnpike listening to the anguish on 740 AM

As for the Favre acquisition...maybe not enough for a SB... but a fan's gotta be a fan and so...

The Giants looked great yesterday.

The Vikings sorta got lucky, I think.

This of course will be a short post-season for the Vikings. As it always is.

PHX, I will buy you a concilliatory beer/cocktail/soda the next time we meet. :D

Damn PR, no love at all for us Miami brothers? The PR I know would silently extend a few of us dol-fans, a congratulations. :)

I mean I'm a realistic fan so jaded with the ways the dolphins have failed me in the past. I know they aren't going to do anything this year or next. But I actually wouldn't be suprised if they got past the Ravens. Beyond that, no way.

Here an oddity.

This weekend all the home teams are the underdogs. Can not remember that ever happening before.
