If you look in the Trip Reports section you will find my posting on 12/15/08 : "San Jose and Jaco this past week". The main point that I would like to make is that certainly speaking Spanish is helpful but I had a GREAT trip without that advantage. If you are looking for the GFE experience I would suggest getting a girl that speaks English. There are quite a few in Sportsmens Lodge. Hope my report helps. Mark52

Mark52,

Thanks for posting Mark ! But remember that with everything there are tradeoffs. Personally I like to try to locate the part timers or low mileage chicas who are not P$P regulars and whom are less likely to be as hardened.

One of the best ways of doing this is to find the girls with no or extremly little Ingles. To be honest I am to the point when visiting CR that I prefer to limit myself to the best of my ability to these ladies.

As a general rule of thumb the more and better English they speak is pretty much of a good indicator of how long they have been in the game. Do yourself a favor and start working on the Espanol right now that's "ahora mismo" amigo.

As a general rule, I agree %100.

Mark, as others have said, the better English they speak, the bigger the ‘pro” you are dealing with. That statement along scares the crap out of me for P4P. But I just wanted to add that you are writing off about 50% off the chicas selection by only dealing with English speaking “chicas”. I know that there is still plenty to play with but if I paid for a buffet, then I would like to be able to eat from whatever plate is available. My $.02

Ican't say that I disagree with anything that you've said here because generally I am in agreement. I've been to Domican Republic twice last year and Costa Rica twice this year and some of the best didn't speak English. I was both trying to give some hope to other newbies and I wanted to spend more time on this trip just hanging with the ladies for a bit. If I could take a pill and know Spanish overnight I would pay a lot. However, they haven't invented that pill yet and they didn't come up with the saying, you can't teach an old dog new tricks, for nothing. With that said, I am going to really try to learn some Spanish before my next trip.

This is the "newbies" section so I will share my experience. I am not a Spanish speaker but didn't let that deter me at all. While speaking Spanish puts you at a definite advantage, it is not at all necessary.

In fact, if you only had so much time to spend on education, I would dedicate at least as much to learning body language as to learning the Spanish language. Body language is universal. Her lips may lie but her body language won't and being able to tell what she is really thinking/feeling instead of relying on what she sez, in any tongue, puts you at a great advantage.

As far as avoiding girls with good English skills: My girl worked at SL for several years and at Flamingo before that. She speaks reasonable English and would fall squarely into the "hardened" category for most. However, inside that exterior is a warmhearted girl. My point is, don't discount the girl just because she speaks English. Learn some game and a little body language and you are good to go (learn Spanish as you go or as you can...it makes life a lot easier.)

Pacifica55,

Thank you for your response to my pm when I was planning my trip. The advice that you gave to not make a trip to Arenal volcano and back in one day was correct. You made me realize that getting a good view of it during a 2-3 hour period that I would be there was pretty slim because of the weather. Instead of going to Arenal, I went zip lining in the morning and white water rafting in the afternoon.
Also, when you said it wasn't a good idea to take a girl from San Jose to the beach at Jaco unless you REALLY hit it off, was right on the money. A lot of the girls that you would like to be with can't go because of their Ch*ldren. A number of posts have asked about taking a girl from San Jose to travel with them and it does sound like a dream trip. However, I now see that a dream trip can turn into a bit of a nightmare. After all, why would a girl want to travel with someone she just met. Is she desperate, a poor performer, etc. As luck would have it, when I was in Jaco I met a girl who was the highlight of my trip (or any other trip for that matter).
By the way, I asked for you at Sportsmens Lodge one night and they said you weren't there. I hope to get back to San Jose in '09 and hope to meet you and buy you a drink.

Pac,

I spent 17 years in professional sales with a Fortune 100 company so I agree completly with you about the value of being able to read a person's non verbal body languange. But with that being said I humbly offer the following quote from another thread that sums things up nicely;

awesome reporting, psychman. makes me itch to be there ASAP.

i'm guessing that your conversations with these ladies are in spanish, thus further illustrating the need to be able to communicate with them in the language to develop such bonds.

Thanks, y si, seguro que castillano es obligatorio para tener experiencias como estas. (yes, Spanish is needed in order to have experiences like those). I for the most part refuse to speak English with those who can (or think they can).

You can have great sex in CR without Spanish, but it is less likely you will have over the top GFEs without a great deal of it. Ask any guy who has improved his Spanish greatly from one trip to the next if it makes a difference).

Pac, I would think that with you living in CR now that your Espanol would be improving greatly.

My Spanish is improving slowly. My girl speaks pretty good English so I am not as pressured as I should be. My vocabulary is coming along but sentence structure eludes me for the most part. I need some formal indoc.

Mark, sorry I missed you. I will be around and am pretty easy to find at SL most nights. I/we take Sundays off like the rest of the "girls" most weeks. Sounds like you had a great trip.
