This isn't a scary thought. The Chinese already have loaned muchos billiones de dinero to the US. The actually own more US dollars than any other country, including the US. So, in fact, they are financing our shitty mess.

My father worked for GM for 30 years and used to always scratch his head when I drove a Honda. I would answer - the car is cheaper and better. Why not?

If the US auto industry hasn't been able to compete in over 30 years, then maybe its time to let natural selection go its course. I think Great Britain recently sold off their auto industry. Maybe its time??? Take the proceeds and plant it into something we are truly good at like technology. Or, how bout this??? We need banks. Period. We can survive without Chevys, because we can buy toyotas. Why not sell off pieces of the auto industry to finance the banking mess???? At least, we are then not robbing tax payers. But.... no.... that would too unpopular. I might lose my job by even mentioning it.

Good points BILKO. The golden parachute crowd do not suffer,,,they get out LONG before the shit hits the fan and the pee-ons are left holding the bag...and thats when SOCIALISM starts sounding like a good idea...and pulling down the houses of those scumbags...

The thing that I cant understand is how apathetic and complacent people are. Nobody is shouting in the streets about this. Nobody piped up when Bush, Cheney and their cronies like Goldman Sachs artificially jacked up the oil prices to pad their swiss bank accounts. Fuckin bunch of sheep we are.

And whats gonna happen is we are going to print money BIG TIME to ease the pain in the short team...What else can OBAMA do? Where's he gonna get the money? Who needs a bailout? How about a Phoenix Rising bailout? :D But you know what happens when they get the presses going hot and heavy? Then its back to gallo pinto for breakfast here in the US :(

In twenty years, when the US has 14% inflation, they will probably blame the current president, 20 years in the future. Not the presidents today, raising taxes, printing money, with zero knowledge of economics. I

n my final economics course, they taught us that governments can really only impact truly free economies in several ways - taxes, tarriffs and outright regulation. They forget to mention printing money, with no basis other than bailout out industries and paying off debts.

It's a prime principle of economics that whoever can do an activity cheaper and/or better SHOULD do that activity (Economic Darwinism). Follow the trail of the apparel industry for proof of that (New England>American South>Costa Rica> Vietnam/Bengladesh). Just because autos employ so many and have such a special place in our national consciousness doesn't give them any right to survive. Appeals to pride only get you so far and the assets auto execs want poured into their dying industry could better be employed elsewhere in the U. S. economy. A little triage goes a long way. That said, how about an effective national health care system be put in place before we cast all those workers and retirees overboard? A little justice here--they didn't make the problem and it's unfair to make them suffer unduly because of it. Want to blame somebody? How about generations of supine auto management that bought labor peace, knowing they'd be long gone when the bill came due, as it has now.

Bilko – you are a great man, I mean that sincerely. I really like your posts. But opening an account at the Banco de las Filas (BCR or BN)? Consider ScotiaBank.

The mainland Chinese are already spending their money, not trying to bail out the US, but trying to corner them maket and enhance there already strong position. But they also know that at this point in history, the golden tit is the American economy. At this point they cannot YET afford to try to unseat the American economy as the world's dominate economy.

Think of it, where is the mainland Chinese Embassy? Right across the street from the president's house?

Where is the BCT, the private bank that manages all of the bonds from the mainland Chinese?

Half a block away?

Coincidence!

Well, it turns out that opening an account anywhere in this mickey mouse country is a pain in the fuucking ass. They want a utility bill (tough luck if it's in the landlord's name), a letter from the US Embassy, a statement from a CPA (Tico style) on where your money comes from, and a few other things I got too pissed off to bother asking about. I already have an account at Banco National related to my residency, so I just moved my money there. Maybe someday I will bother with all the bullshit to open a fuucking SAVINGS account, but right now I am too steamed.

I was lucky to have opened my account at Scotia Bank before they got so ridiculous. But anymore, you may be better off just keeping your money in a safe at home -- bolted to the ground of course with an armed guard keeping constant vigilance.

Not to rap the Distinguished Brother but both he and Naisbit are using arithmetic progressions about the coming Chinese hegemony--I think a geometric model works better. Also electric lights are a double-edged sword--yes you could work and play into the night but it also meant you HAD to do so, thus a major contributor to the frenzied pace of modern life. The analog is modern communications (cells, PDAs, laptops) and the harried "road warriors". None of which has anything to do with Bank Cuscatlan. Back to you, Chet.

I have an account there, too. The service is ok and usually no long lines.

On the good side, I live in the banking district, and there are probably a dozen or more banks close by, all of those mentioned and more. I am going to walk around and find out what info each requires to open an account. If I can find more than one that doesn't require a top-secret clearance by the CIA, FBI and NASCAR I will choose among them.

I would like to open a bank account in Costa Rica. The process described here seems to confuse me. I thought only two letters from US banks where required. What are the requirements for a personnal account and a business account?

Am I better off incorporating first? Can I open the account without residency?

I am hoping to avoid reporting this account to the US Socialist Government. Does BAC have an office somewhere in the States or can I open an account with them without IRS involvement?

Thanks

I'd be careful about answering Mickeymoose's questions about concealment or evasion in a public Forum--maybe in a PM. "Aiding and abetting" comes to mind.

CR is not the place. All banks, public and private, now report activity to the IRS.
