There have been times when the first lady of the land had a bug up the tail and caused big changes. Bars all closed earlier until the financial reality came home and they changed it back. Who knows what will happen this time. Maybe they don't want our money. In this economy, have fun. Let's see, who is more likely to avoid a trip, somebody going to look at monkeys or somebody coming to visit the MPs? To the officials reading this, please think for a change.

The syndrome is that of missionary zeal. To me that means someone who rejects logic and rational thought in favor of a personal bias steeped in excessive, intense passion, regardless of how good or how misguided the focus of the zeal -- the belief.

In this case, resolving uncontrolled violent crime, drug trafficking, etc, (logical and rational for a free society and an improved economy) in favor of harassing hard working women and old farts from Gringolandia who enjoy and are willing to pay for a specific hobby which is as old as mankind itself.

But the question that begs to be answered:

Did she bite his little unit off and swallow it :?: :?: :P  ; did he pull a Crain and force her to swallow :?: :?:   ; or, and least likely, did she look up at him and say "OH! bebi, quiero tu leche en mi boca" :? :o

It's too early to know but I don't think she will be that strong. Don Oscar's popularity is not too high in the country. I think she will have a hard time beating Johnny Araya (sp), or Otton Solis, if he runs.

Otton Solis is definitely going to run. I am not sure his stand on mongering.

1.) Johnny Araya is a real hands-on, get things done kind of guy. He would be good for the nation if he could translate his efforts from a large city organization to the national platform. He not too monger friendly and is very anti-gay. If the gays can organize and get out the vote, they could prevent him from gaining office.

2.) The law of unintended consequences knows no boundries. The four year limit on holding office is a significant structural problem for effective governance. The law of unintended consequences once again rules: in an effort to create a system without corruption they created an environment which encourages corruption.

I think Solis is a bit to the left... He seems like he would be involved in more serious problems, but I've learned not to speculate on CR. There is no rhyme or reason to anything that happens here... I think, as we have seen by Don Oscar, it is a country with little man's syndrome... A Disney world country who wants to be on the big stage.... Look at how much Arias has travelled outside the country during his presidency. While there is lots to do here....

TW,
I think you're right. I remember the last election was held over Superbowl weekend in Feb 2006, and all liquor sales shut down for a couple days. As long as you know the date(s) ahead of time, it's not really a big deal. It just makes you prepare for the dry weekend ahead of time. So the next CR presidential election should be around the 1st or 2nd weekend of February, 2010.

MG

As several guys know I have actually been seriously considering making a move to Bucaramanga, Colombia maybe some time this next year. I had a condo in Bogota during the height of the FARK's power and yet never found anywhere in Colombia to be as dangerous as San Jose is today. The infrastructure of any major city in Colombia is far superior to San Jose. The cost of living is much less. The women are more beautiful, sexi, and friendly (and overall, they like gringos).

As for my choise of Bucaramanga: It has a climate very simular to San Jose (less rain) it is a beautiful city. very few gringos and the women love gringos. And did I mention that in the 18-35 age bracket, women out number men 2 to 1!!!!!!!!!

Bogota is too cold-year round daily high is 63degrees F
Cartagena, Barranquilla, and Santa Marta are too hot and humid
Medellin is OK but I would rather live in a city with fewer Gringos-it is already beginning to have mongering related problems.
Cali would be my second choise--most beautiful women in the world (IMHO) and a beautiful city.
Montera, Periera, and Pasto are a little too small for me

Law officers conduct major sweeps in parts of San José
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

More than 100 police officers mounted on trucks or motorcycles, riding in vans and other vehicles descended on sections of San José Friday night and Saturday morning.

They arrested four men who had outstanding arrest warrants, and they detained 48 persons as suspected illegal residents.

In the raid most of interest to expats, the security minister, Janina del Vecchio personally directed a sweep of the Hotel Del Rey, its casino and its bar about 7 p.m. Friday night. They were there about 45 minutes.

Participating were Fuerza Pública officers, the Policía de Migración, the Policía Municipal, the Policía del Tránsito, the Policía de Control de Drogas and tactical squad members with their faces covered in ski masks.

The motorized force blocked and cordoned off Calle 9 from Avenida 3 to Avenida 1 and the north lane of Avenida 1.

But the results were poor at the Del Rey. Only three women were found to be suspected immigration violators.

(etc...)

Thatta girl, Janina! Don't waste your time with murderers and muggers and rapists when you can nab 3 dangerous foreign prostitutes!!!! Way to use scarce resources!!!!! This way the police won't be tired when you organize the next parade against crime. You IDIOT!

Give her a break man!!! She's a math teacher. To her - the number 3 might have some important significance.
