And Circus was just saying the other day that he thought it was probably time for him to leave and that his presence has grown stale. Well, this post is still every bit as fresh and moving as it was when he posted it last year. I hope he re-reads what has been written here and understands his impact (his continuing impact) on his brothers here at CRT. This is one G-D Liberal anti-war socialist :P that appreciates very much how much veterans like Circus have sacrificed for this country. Circus, today I salute you and hope that this day goes well for you while you remember your other brothers in arms. For my part, I'm heading to the mall.

Thanks Circus for this inspiring message and all that you have posted over the years. And thanks to CRD for resurrecting it.

As a vietnam vet I appreciate your story. It seems like the general public has placed vets day in the same cataglory as Lincolns Birthday ect. I worked my way through college at a veterans hospital in Vancouver Washington. I saw a lot that will stick with me for life. There is no treatment too good for the men who gave thier lives and limbs for this country.

Circus thanks for the thread, and thanks for your service.

As a member of the younger generation (25 yr old) I have witnessed and even partaken in the lack of respect and understanding of and for veterans and wars. One year of mandatory US history in high school, various documentaries, and Hollywood big budget films don't give us a true understanding of true wartime emotions. We really know nothing about real fear in times of war. My generation has never really experienced a true threat by opposing nations to understand the necessity of war at times. 9/11 gave us a brief intro into what it means to be threatened but that obviously doesn't compare with times of the past.

Even the most liberal, anti-war Americans must respect and dearly thank those that risked life and limb to maintain this great country. We wouldn't have the luxury of choosing not volunteer for war if it wasn't for these sacrifices. This especially applies to someone like me who wouldn't be on the battlefield in any situation short of a draft.

in a time when it is in fashion to show disdain for the military or put them down as the uneducated amongst us, it is now more than ever we need to let those who make the ultimate sacrifice know how much they are appreciated. donate money or time to your local VA.
i am going to follow my own advice this year.

Now I understand the regulars on this Board.
They look for lonely old men in the mall and visit the restrooms when they have no money for the discount MP's.

It is clear now.

Please do not feed the trolls!

I can see now how they get depressed easily by negative writing. They wake up that way, are that way and then fool themselves into thinking that only their view is the correct one.

BTW, is that Terra Mall, San Pedro Mall or MultiPlaza Mall? Or is it the mall that you can travel to for the least amount of money.

Perverts and trolls abound on this Board.

Great post Circus and many thanks!!

While an expat in Germany, I was in Berlin visiting the Sachsenhausen concentration camp where I met a British vet (in his 80s) who had landed at Normandy 2 hours after the initial landing.. One of the few survivors from his company. We spent the entire evening at a bar on eastside (both of us sipping lemonade) and parted in the wee hours of the morning with him sharing his experiences from WWII. More like a father to grandson tutorial with him at his finest.

It was probably the best time I had. I had no regrets on skipping a planned FKK trip and a pub crawl. I headed back to the hostel, almost dazed, took my stuff, and headed for my scheduled train departure.

Great post!!

Circus, you are top flight. Thank you. And thank God for the rest of you who were also deeply moved by Circus' thoughtfulness and patriotism.

Admin1, thanks for removing that pitful excuse.
