Not really San Jose... it's in La Garita, which is a fairly small town about 20 minutes outside of San Jose. Never heard of this hotel before.

Beers depend on the place selling them. You'll likely find at a minimum Heinekin, Pilsen, Imperial, Corona and possibly a few others. Don't expect a huge selection, as the number of beers imported into Costa Rica are somewhat small.

A typical Imperial (similar to a Grain Belt or Budweiser) will run you anywhere from 500c (about a buck) to 1500c (about $3.00), with an average at about 1200c at most gringo places.

It's a fairly safe area, but i still wouldn't go walking around at 10pm in poorly lit areas.

I believe there's a great Wing place there called Magic's Motown, if you want fancy dinner, you're probably looking at the hotel restaurant or going into town.

The closest beach is Jaco, about 1.5 hours away, safety is relative.. tourist beaches are known for their pickpockets. You could try some of the smaller beaches up and down the coast, but you'll of course have to spend time traveling to them.

I stayed at hotel Martino in Alajuala sp. two years ago. It has a casino and a nice resturant with good food. The rooms are as nice as in I have stayed in, in CR. The rooms are european with a bidet and beautiful paneling. I believe the zoo is across the street. The area seems safe allthough there is not much within walking distance as I remember.

I think you should research a different Costa Rica site.

If you are taking your wife, hotel Martino is a great place. Take a few side trips to waterfalls ect, you will be good. Who says you have to be a mongerer to use this site.

Coca-cola, Fanta orange, Canada Dry ginger ale, and some others. All glass returnable bottles. About the same price as beers.
