Not a breakfast place. Do they have a discount for CRT?

I do not think they offer a discount, still it is a great little place to eat.

I saw that on the menu, but, vodka and pasta does not compute in the mind...but, perhaps in the palate.....

that sounds like a load of BS to me, when i used to live in new york i occasionally visited the eagle, which is a lot more flamboyant than this place will ever be, and i never heard of such "assaults"

cafe mundo is an excellent place to eat, as others have mentioned a nice, varied menu with outstanding preparation and service at fair prices.

it's lovely for lunch sitting outside and on a nice evening as well. i did not notice any homosexual element, at least nothing unusual but some people who are unaccustomed to big cities or whatever may freak out at the first sign of two men holding hands.

Pretty sure BK was just joking but Cafe Mundo has been reviewed as a gay hangout on many travel sites. Even Frommer's says: "This place is almost always filled with a broad mix of San José's gay, bohemian, theater, arts, and university crowds."

I never noticed them, probably cause I'm engrossed with a cute chica from SL and a great pizza.

Just got back and ate there about 5-6 times during my stay. Good food, very clean, decent prices, great atmosphere and NO is not a gay restaurant. Although, the hostess is definitely gay. They are expanding and it looks like they will be almost doubling their space. My amigas love food and easy going atmosphere.

The host, who I believe is a Canadian, does a good job. Seems to be very efficient and keeps things running smoothly. Cafe Mundo is one of my favorite places to eat in San Jose.

I've been told by several Ticas and Ticos that Cafe Mundo is considered a gay hangout.
But who cares?
The food and service are good and the prices are fair, and it's within easy walking distance of several of our CRT-friendly hotels.
I take chicas there just about every time I visit SJO. And since I usually stay at SL, it's only a two-block walk.
The fact that two guys at a corner table might be holding hands doesn't stop me from enjoying my meal.

Maybe gays like good food too?

I see plenty of M/F couples and groups in Cafe Mundo that I would say that it is NOT predominantly for gays (M/M or F/F).

I live in a big city with a significant gay community. I am not homophobic so it does not bug me to see gays out in public. Seeing a couple of dudes holding hands in Cafe Mundo would not drive me out of the place.

Makes no difference to me whether gays go there or not. I like Cafe Mundo and the food. Most of the gays do seem to be nice people. I'm sure that many of the gays don't approve of what us mongers do either. Live and let live. 8)
