With respect to "Garfield" or George as I knew him....I would not be able to do a honest story about him. I was only an acquaintance and not completely sure of his actual life story. Perhaps others may have known more credible evidence of his past and life in CR.

He did walk the walk and talk the talk along with knowing many aspects of Vietnam. Some say he fabricated his service but I will have to give him the benefit of the doubt since I've known many veterans that went south of the border.....some just rambled on and some just didn't want to talk about it.

I always like to write about people and places but I need to be of clear conscience when portraying a story.

Yes, it would be a good story if someone credible could give insight to his life in CR following his apparent and verified service in Vietnam.

As far as characters.....He ranks right up there in the top. A class act when it comes to entertaining those around him and giving eye openers to newbies to CR.

He certainly does quality for an "Unforgettable Character."

If Garfield was really genuine and and not a figment of his own imagination, then he must have been quite special. We ive in a world where most try to fit in and blend with the hoi polloui.

True originals are rare and to be appreciated for having the guts to be who they really are.

Why else are we facinated with folks from ancient history such as conquistadors, priates ho's, train robbers, Marco Polo's and other assorted originals? Becaues most of lack the courage to be that out there. Howevver, I will say that mongers do tiptoe around the edges of unorthodoxy 8)

Wish I'd met Garfield.

I like that comment, except for the typos, but the actual thought hits it heads on. I certainly hope that I have done my share to freak out the locals......perhaps because I'm just pitiful.

I think we admire people who know who they are, what they want, where they are going, how they are going to get there and then have the balls to do it.

From men like General George S. Patton to Don Vito Corleone, we admire men for being men, having courage to following their dream.

Many of us live two lives. I have my mongering life and I have my professional life. They are clearly separate and the personalities required to manage both are quite different. But the underlying values are having a vision or dream of what we want and then going out and getting it.

So we have a character (in the best sense of the word) like Garfield whom many of us did not know, who is larger than life, and we admire him or his memory because he knew what he wanted and he got it and he didn’t gratuitously harm others in the process.

Garfield R.I.P. I remember you from the 90's. You were around the Del Rey and always seemed to have an intensity about you.

You were a uniquely unusual characted and hung with more of the same. Many stories and tales circled in your wake. You were no saint, but who really is

I remember your tailored suites without a shirt. Medals and ribbons pinned to your chest literally through your jacket sans the mettle holders we often call tits.

Your life's theme seemed to require scars and blood letting just to get it right.

Vaya con Dios amigo. 8)
