Most of us believe that we should be gentleman on this board and conduct ourselves in accordance therewith. By that, I mean we are men who respect a high standard of propriety with one another; who write with appropriate decorum.

While I strongly agree with you that looking for a lasting and meaningful relationship among ladies of leisure is a non sequitur, there is really no place for insults and personal attacks against our brother hobbyists.

I have to chime it too.

I was in Medellin, Colombia for 10 days April 2009 and people didnt give me a second glance. The girls are beautiful and run in packs of 2 or more. I dont speak hardly any spanish (few words) and I understand less than that and I never had a single problem other than trying to order a pizza (long story)hahaha. I walked the streets late at night, went to all the bars, used taxi's, shopped the street vendors(and was able to bargen them down 50% at least), never a problem. As a matter of fact, I felt right at home most of the time.

BTW, you can get laid at the strip clubs there also for about 35 dollars by a knock out girl....and the girls on the street love to get their pictures take by visitors

One thing you have to think about in my opinion is: When in Rome, do what the Romans do. If you look and dress like a tourist, the con men and women will see you coming a mile away.

This is just my experience and I would hate for someone to not get to enjoy Medellin in fear of being robbed or conned is some way.

Colombia or CR same difference you have the same possiblity of success as failure.

My girl currently is from Cali but I have dated two ticas seriously for many years that I could of married either one.

Living with the lady helps but still failure is still possbile.

Enter the realtionship with your eyes open. learn the lanaguage and the culture.

Most important you are not only getting the Girl you are getting the family, it's problems[which sometime tends to increase with you dating the girl] they will look for her help or [your money to help] be careful, and if she has K*ds your chances of success goes down a little more.

Cali is very very dangerous but Costa Rica can be also I own property in both location and I walk around both places with my eyes open wide.

Consider your time with the lady as a graduate school project you must observe the subject carefully and sometime test them to try to see what her intentions are.

What are you looking for a wife or a sex partner?

You must be clear of your needs before you even proceed.

Love the chat about safety in Latin America.... but the thread is a little bit high-jacked.

Back to the original request - I'm not going to write a novel about how to find a non-hooker girlfriend in Costa Rica. All I'm going to say is that its fairly easy, relative to the states. The first and most important part is don't look anywhere near the gulch. And, be prepared, because just because she isn't a hooker, doesn't mean she is angel. A lot of these girls have been brought-up in the ghetto. (by our standards). I dated a non-hooker, who I caught stealing from me. I've had all sorts of drama and crazy situations... like my ex-novia in a bloody cat fight with another chica in the bathroom. Or, like the day, where my ex-novia took/borrowed without permission/stole my car and drove it into my neighbor's house.

Girls here are NOT taught about life's lessons by their parents and tend to be very immature and naive. Many have very bad educations. For example, some can't learn english formally in school, because their spanish is so bad that they can't be taught a second language. Their parents give them religion, survival skills and thats about it. So, be prepared to spend time with a 30 year old women, going on 13 years of age who thinks

... that all Asian people... Japanese, Chinese, Thai, Philipinos are just Chinos. Quite literally if their eyes slant, they are chinese.

That you can catch a cold, by getting wet, even though its 70 degrees out.

That Nicaraguans are evil and despicable.

That all Colombianos are mafia.

That its the United States fault, that CR didn't make the world cup this year.

Or, that all Asian food, is comida china.

That all black people in CR that speak english.... aren't really speaking english. They are speaking Patua... because english is for white people, and patua is for black people.

Or, that is stupid and expensive to pay the new 320 colones Peaje, becuase the alternative of driving 2 hours through Escazu and guzzling 2,000 colones of gas is a good way to teach the government a lesson and save money.

Stopping in the middle of the road to say hi to your friends is totally acceptable. The people that almost crashed into your behind totally understand and will politely wait until your conversation is over.

Talking on your cell phone is a status symbol and the most important thing in the world. Make sure you are on your cell phone... all the time... so that people think you are rich. Even if it means an accident, who cares? You can leave your car in the middle of the road and call INS from your cell phone. Its sooooo important.

If you are Mexican, you are responsible for swine flu. If no one ever travelled to Mexico, then there wouldn't be any swine flu!

I ALMOST FORGOT MY FAVORITE QWERKS about latinas in CR....


1. Those credit cards that gringos use to buy things are free... like the caja. There's no spending limit. And, you never even have to pay a bill. My current novia was shocked when she caught me paying a credit card bill. Blown away. Thought it was all free. It was a huge revelation.

2. You cannot trust banks!!!! The second any money is deposited into your account, by what ever means, it must be spent. In fact, the account balance should be always kept at zero. So, if you are at the ATM take it all it and round it down because you can take at denominations of 1,000 colones. Then when the balance is around 1,000... use the rest like debit card to buy a soda and pack of gum.... important to keep the balance at zero.

3. All gringos arrive in Costa Rica... with a 'money tree' that can be planted anywhere. Whenever they need money, they just go out back and shake that tree until money falls out.

4. Everyone should consider the job of Call Center representative as being the ultimate and almighty career objective. Even though latinos in Miami, without green cards, make three times as much sweating over a deep fryer in a shitty fast food place. There's something special about dressing up everyday and working 40 hours a week... wearing those cool headsets... that makes earning $2 per hour... just friggin'great!!!!
