Rainman – I hear you and point is well taken. My point was not to belittle your thread or make fun of it. I do agree that many posts are just wasted space but at least let’s give them the credit that they are posting.

Hopefully and I have seen that on some members that start by writing a stupid line here and there and now they are great contributors. It might be that they need to warm up to the board and get the groove of it but the hardest part is to get them to start posting. Let’s be patience with them and they will either come around or get ignored to the point that they go away.

There's no need for 5000 words when this post summed it all up pretty clearly:

Actually, I did have a longer post earlier in this thread where I said in a couple of places that I actually agreed with you 110% on the matter of tolerating some grammatical or spelling errors in posts. And I even closed that post with a comment addressed directly to you where I said "with great sincerity and respect ... We all GREATLY appreciate the HUGE wealth of information you bring to this forum, even if some aspects of your posting style or personality might sometimes irritate or annoy us."

Obviously, some aspects of my posting style irritate you as well. For that I'd offer the same bit of advice I offered you in that post concerning your oversensitivity, just get over it. Alternatively, I'd also suggest to you the same thing I'd suggest to anybody else. If you don't like the way someone else posts and those posts don't seem to address you personally, then simply don't read them. That should be easy enough for you or anyone else to do.

OTOH, I also find it somewhat "absurd" and "comical" in its own right, that you should mock others for picking apart someone else's posts for grammar, punctuation and spelling when you yourself pick apart everyone's posts for just about anything else, including matters that are just as picayune. And as long as you're doing that I'll continue to hold you to the same high standards. If you can't take that, then I suggest you don't dish it out.

For some reason, the topic of grammar has proven to be important to those who read and post on this site.

The thread “Do we need a grammar lesson?” was started on January 30, 2008, and as of this posting had been viewed 1889 times with 61 responses.

The thread “Grammer, Punctuation & Spelling on CRT [sic],” was started on September 28, 2008, and as of this posting had been viewed 977 times with 48 responses.

It appears that CRT members enjoy this topic and that is why it is relevant: 2886 cumulative viewings; 109 cumulative posts.

NOTE: This was also posted on the "Do we need a grammar lesson?" thread.

Perhaps you mean like when you asked the question:

Prolijo wrote:
And I THOUGHT that is about "all" it had been costing recently (not sure where ID's $26 came from - had it really gone up that much? Surprised)

and I answered the question, you posed, by quoting two members who had posted they were charged $25.00. Rather then accept the fact that they going rate had increased you accused me of nit picking.

Or perhaps you are referring to when I said my Florida Credit Union and you gave a long winded post on the policies of the Florida Credit Union. A completely different Credit Union.

Or perhaps you are referring to my reference to Red Total ATM machines which you converted to Redbanc and then Redlink. WTF was that about? Perhaps you like to post long drawn out replies but maybe you should shorten your posts and spend the extra time you gain working on your reading comprehension skills.:P :P :P

So just as you are ready to hold me to the same high standards as I hold you that's great. The difference is I will do it in a few concise words rather then an long drawn out essay.

ID,

I'll grant you that you're more concise than I am (heck, who isn't?), however your relative brevity also has the (probably intentional) effect of placing my comments totally out of context.

That 2nd quote was NOT a correction. It was an honest and completely on topic question (ie was not "nitpicking"). I hadn't realized cab fares from the airport had gone up quite that much, was somewhat surprised if it had, was NOT saying you were necessarily wrong (ie deliberately worded my "question" to reflect uncertainty on my part), and the precise original topic of the thread WAS airport cab fares after all.

Alsp, when I accused you of nitpicking, it was NOT AT ALL over your response to whether the cab fare was $20 or $26 or even cien . It was over your raisng the entirely new issue as to which bank (and bank network) you or I use. and hence the ensuing discussion. I'll admit that I did follow you off of the thread topic with my arcane bank discussion (and I guess am doing a similar thing here), but those remarks WERE in DIRECT response to your comments recommending that one use their ATM card to hit up their bank account the moment they arrive in CR in order to pay for what is essentially a $20 cab ride.

Somewhat more on-topic and as long as we're in a thread on grammar and spelling, my Florida credit union would be the more clearly generic way of putting it. Florida Credit Union (with each word starting in cap) does suggest a proper name, particularly since there is a bank in Florida that goes by that name.

I'll also admit I did misread Redbanc and mistype Redlink (which I followed by a (?))but, again, consider the context (BTW, when have you ever admitted a mistake or any other shortcomings in your posts, oh flawless One? Rarely if ever) . You were the one that brought in the mention of some obscure interbank network into a thread on airport cabfares, not me. I was merely pointing out that obscurity, so perhaps my failure to get the name right only underlines that obscurity as much as it is a comment on my "reading comprehension".

And finally. as long as we're talking about reading comprehension and misreading one little word buried in one of your posts, how about your own reading comprehension. My discussion of banks may have been really going off on a tangent, however every one of my post made very clear that my main point was not about which bank you use or what network you were on, but about the need to use ANY ATM to take money out of your account when all you need to do is pay a lousy $20 cab fare and you probably already have a wad of dollars in your pocket that need to be converted to colones. I missed one little word, what you repeatedly misread I can only describe as astounding:

First the quote that started it all:
Prolijo wrote:
... I do NOT use ATM's that early in my trip because of the fees involved (regardless of which ATM you use). Still I think this new policy about paying in colones will really mess up the more typical gringo tourist and unofficially exchanging dollars to colones at poor rates in order to pay the fare will probably become a favored way for these cabbies to make a little extra profit on each trip. (bold added)
Then my close on my next post:
Prolijo wrote:
... MY point, which was probably lost in the ensuing discussion, was that the need here is simply to get colones for the cab, not to take money out of your bank account, and bringing dollars to exchange (which you should have plenty of anyway this early in your trip) completely eliminates any possibility of getting hit with any extra bank fees REGARDLESS of which bank you use. (original formatting)
And, finally, my close from my 3rd and last post to you in that thread
Prolijo wrote:
... REGARDLESS of which bank you use, there is really no need to use ANY ATM at all just to get $20 worth of colones for a cab ride (or to change to a particular bank just because it supposedly doesn't charge for foreign ATM's), when changing money upstairs at the bank booths is as easy as it is and we still have plenty of cash already in our pockets (albeit in dollars). IMHO, unless you live in CR and HAVE to turn to ATM's eventually, the ATM's are for much later in your trip when and IF you run out of the cash you brought with you.

You can nitpick about your Florida Cracker Union and why you think it is so much "better" all you want, but addressing these real issues would be much more to the point when we're discussing the need to get colones to pay for a cab right after arriving in CR (original formatting)
What part of all that was off-topic? What part of all that did YOU fail to comprehend?

The difference between me and you goes well beyond the lengths of our posts. If the only problem you have is length, then you can easily just skip over my posts (as I'm sure many other people do). IMHV, the more important difference between me and you, is your condescending corrections of EVERYONE else on this board. OTOH, I save all that just for you. :P
