Or drink heavily :D starting on the plane, then after checking in pound some Jagerbombs with the bartenders followed by shots of vodka :P that should help, if not chase a couple valiums with beer  then pick yourself up off the floor and talk to some chicas.

LOL, you forgot to say "not intended as professional medical advice. Ask your doctor whether mongering is right for you."

John:

Welcome to CRT and thanks for having the courage to express what's on your mind.

One thing about the taxis: The one's outside the main entrance to the Hotel Del Rey DO NOT....repeat.....DO NOT use the meter and you're going to get the shaft. Make certain the cab/taxi uses the meter or, in Costa Rica lingo "maria".

Catch any cab you take outside the entrance to the Blue Marlin Bar....where all the chicas enter and "clock in".....those cabs typically are going to go by the meter and you're not going to get the shaft taxi fare wise.

Steven1 is right. The taxis in front of the HDR will rip you off. For a cab, just go out that side entrance. When you see a cab stick up your hand and they will pull over if unoccupied. Make sure the meter is running.

You owe it to yourself to get out and about. Make some friends at the BM Bar. Most guys are really friendly and have the same thing in mind that you do. Nearly everyone I have met there is helpful and willing to take you under their wing. Try the Sportsman’s Lodge, ZB and NF. HDR is great, but there other experiences are great too. I think better experiences.
