I'm getting a little tired of eating at the Del Mar Restaurant. Are there any other restuarants open after 12:00 or 1:00AM? Thanks

Chelle's is one block from the HDR on Ave. Central. Furthur down a few blocks is Manolo's, a fave of mine.

Also Cafeteria 1830 @ Grand Hotel Costa Rica, Hotel Europa @ calle central y avenida 4, Nuestra Tierra @ avenida 2 y calle 15. I believe, but not positive, that the restaurant at the Colonial is open 24 hours a day.

Here's a thought, eat before 10 P.M. I use to wait too only to be hungry and drinking on an empty stomach. You can also eat at the DR for a fraction of the cost of the Del Mar. Have a seat in the back of the DR and have the chicken sandwich, It will fill you up. If you don't want to eat alone, there's always a hungry chica around.

LionKing, good advice, I didn't know you could order food at the DR. I've seen the girls eat there but I've always assume (yeah, it's not good to do that) they were ordering from the Del Mar.

Believe it or not that is where your food is coming from only alot cheaper to eat it over at the DR. Like I said, the chicken sandwich is great, I think its 3,500 colone but well worth it. The soups are very good also. You could take a walk to the New York Bar right down the hill, but I don't know what time the kitchen closes. Try the chicken wings (Drum Sticks) they are really good. You get 4 large for under 2,500 colone. Hope this helps ya.

Kitchen closes fairly early at the NYB. Not sure of the exact time as I only eat lunch there. You use to be able to get a bowl of chili anytime they were open but maybe that has changed.

Don't mean to be a buzz kill. But fellas, (especially while in CR) you should avoid eating late at night. Stay light and fit in the bed so you can tear up some chicas

Food at Del Ray is cheaper than Del Mar? Why is that? They are coming from the same place?

Yeah......Tico food. Good value for the money. I was told that the chicas pay less for it than the gringos.....that it's mostly for the benefit of the chicas; cheap food, in house. They don't need to leave.

Used to be a good deal 2.5 years ago for 1400 colon or a little less the 3 dollars. NOW the price is 3500 for guys and 3000 for chicas.

Yes , they have a sign that reads this different price.

At this price I started ordering from the Del Mar Menu or eating somewhere else.

I ate at this 24 hour cafe right down the street from Hotel Europa...shouldnt cost more than maybe 1,000 colones each way from HDR (as little as 500 each way if you know spanish and don't catch the cab directly outside of HDR.) good casado, cheap, clean, and healthy (2,000-3,000 a plate) careful when u order...u might end up with something you don't like (i.e. lengua...ewwww!)
