Well gentelmen, I went and did it. Now that I've decided to stay in Costa Rica for good, I've decided to buy a Condo. It's a new project in Sabana West. Its called BrisasOeste and its a high rise completly self contained with health club, pool, underground parking, total security - even a mini mall on the grounds! It's about 10 mins. due west of the gultch and in a nice area. I took a unit on the 7th floor with a great view of San Jose on one side and Mountians on the other.
I'm not sure but my lawyer (yes, you need a lawyer to pull this off) tells me that since I'm paying cash (came out of 401K), I can use this towards my investor residency status IF I set up an S.A. (incorporate). Can anyone confirm this? Can it be done? Is it easier than going through the requirements for pensionado status?
LVSteve
PS: I am due to move in in March when the building is supposed to be completed and I will offer updates as the project moves forward (much like I did with the car purchase)

LV Steve,

Welcome to the neighborhood :D

I live in a building right next to building 4 in Brisas Oeste. You are correct it is in a nice area and convenient to both San Jose and Escazu. Sure you will enjoy it here.

And just what...are the price ranges for houses and condos. I know that I will be down there eventually..but have always thought that I would rent.

Is this the place? Very nice. (I had trouble finding it on Google until I put Brisas Oeste in as two words).

Man those are sweet LV I'd love to know the price ranges as well, their website doesn't mention them.

Just imagine the Chicas walking into that pad you won't be able to get them out of there!

Curious why you chose new versus existing construction?

Yes, thats the site.
DingDong;
For some reason, I thought you lived in a condo in San Pedro? Also, from the 4th building, north? I'll look for your place next time I'm over there. Looks like traffic can be a bear. Whats the best time to leave for SJ?
Goal,
prices for the two bedroom start at about 86,000.00 and go up about 2K per floor. I got a 4% cash discount and an October special 2K off price and I'm on the 7th floor.
There are 3 bedrooms starting at 113,000.00 and they also go up as you go up. There are two penthouses per building and I have no idea of those prices.
Hope I answered everyone's questions. Again, I am in the process of buying and will report on the process in CR as opposed to the states.

YO Steve:
As I relayed to you when last there.......in my opinion, it is unwise to purchase property as of now. Especially since you are a newbie resident. I hope you will reconsider and wait to see the financial climate of CR in the next six months. Personally, I have a negative feeling about the stability of things there and elsewhere in the oncoming year.

Just my 2 cents worth.........but concerned about mi amigo in SJ.

Take care and prosper..........Circus

Circus;
Gave this a lot of thought: Checked out the prices for new and under construction condos in both Escazu and Santa Ana and from what I can see, I bought under market by at least 30,000.00 US. I took a good look at what the 401 K was doing and by far, real estate is the way to go. Short of a reveloution, I don't think whatever happens in CR politics will affect my property.
LV
PS: Probably got another good 10 years left and I want to enjoy them in realative safety. Will also put this property in my K*ds trust so they will either have a vacation spot or they can sell with no mortagage to pay off.

Steve,

Traffic is a bear at almost anytime between the west end and the east end of Sabana Park. It is only a two lane road and if there is an accident, which happens a lot, the traffic is a nightmare, Why they did not make an entrance to the auto pista there is a mystery.

PS: Is that a VIP flag I see flying on the post from Circus?????????

Now that you mention it, it IS a Vip flag on his post. I just can't imagin him coughing up the dough? Wonders never cease!
Yeah, I kind of noticed that the traffic looked pretty screwed up the other day. Left the complex at around 4:00 and was headed towards SJ and it really bunches up just past POPS. If its too bad, I guess I could come out and make a right, go west to Escazu and get on there? What do you think?

YO VIP's

NO, Circus did not join the elite VIP membership. I'm too cheap to do that. It is my understanding that it was plotted by several suspicious type characters. I have never consummated the relationship anyway. Can't log into it....no password. Besides, I was told there are revealing chica photos and other scarey things hidden in there. It could harm my community standing here in the Pits of Jax.......Lord forbid.

Circus...I am arranging for you to have a password. I think it was the intent of those ¨suspicious¨ characters who provided your membership that you should have access to the photos of your belated ¨huggy¨...and to allow you to post on the VIP board in case you someday get laid but want a ¨private¨ forum in which to discuss it 8) . Plus...the flag looks very nice under your name...

LVSTEVE

Have found that going west to Escazu and getting on the auto pista takes about the same amount of time as fighting the traffic if you go east. The advantage is that if you are a type A personality you keep moving rather go a few feet at a time.

If traffic is really screwed up you can go left at POPS, past the La Princesa Marina and get on the road that goes on the north side of the park, it is a four lane divided road and moves faster.

The other alternative is to turn right at the Mexican restaurant (La Botana Picante) go to the first left take that about six blocks until you come to avenida 42 turn left and you will come out at Mc Donald's on Sabana Sur.

thats exactly the kind of information I was looking for, thanks, Ding Dong!
I like the right turn at the Mexican resturant as that brings me out closer to where I want to be.
