First off, I wanted to thank all the great people who have answered the many questions I have posted on this board before my first trip to CR, 3 days baby, oh yeah! Another possible dumb question, are the prices the girls quote you in colones or in dollars. Like at the Cigar Hotel formely ZB, I know it's standard pricing but is it in Colones where the exchange rate favors us or in dollars in which the exchange rate is pretty much meaningless. Thanks.

Last week I was quoted $55 for one hour or 30,000 colon. You can guess what I did.

Well if you chose to pay the 30,000 crc you saved yourself a whopping .16 cents.

55.00 x 547 = 30,085

or

30,000 ./. 547 = 54.84

547 was the average bank sell rate last week.

I have said it before on this board and I still say the average HDR girl can do the calculation from crc/usd or usd/crc faster and more accurately then the jefe of the CR central bank.

So which did you choose :?:

Lately most of the girls seem to be asking for dollars. On my last trip were colones. I do not bother too much with the difference. Like ID is commenting is just not a great difference and the chica is happier. And that is worth more to me.

If the girls quoted you $55 compared to 30000 colones, then agreed it's not a big difference but if the girls quote you $60 compared to 30000 colones, that $5 adds up if you take a few girls a day. That's possible a meal or could be the difference between being able to pay a propina or needed give even more on top of the 30000 colones.

That's a huge if. These girls may act like Ch*ldren when they immediately turn cartoons on when they see your TV but when it comes to money they are all business.

They are fully aware of the exchange rate and will adjust their asking rate in colones to match the exchange rate or shade it to their advantage as most gringo tourists have more trouble calculating the exchange now that they can not use 500 to the dollar as an easy reference.

I know back during my July trip the ZB was still doing 500 colones per dollar for everything (sessions, bar, etc.). If the now-LH is still doing that then definitely use dollars there. Now, the DR chicas can be different, many of them apparently do follow the exchange rate.
