I was wondering about taking a taxi to Jaco Beach.

I read the bus topic and do not think I want to do that with all my luggage.

I would just be fine with taking a taxi.
Is this possible? Or do most Taxi services not travel that far?

If so, what would average cost be? Do I prebook? Just wave one down? What taxis so I try to get and which ones are to be avoided?

Thanks again.

By the way the Taxi would be from la amistad to jaco and the from Jaco back.

Oh, they'll take you, but it'll cost you about $100. Interbus is a great choice, it's like one of those airport shuttle busses.

Problem I found with this is they have limited departure times. My flight arrives at 3:30 which, as far as I understand it, is past both the public and Interbus departure times. Anyone know any different?

Hey Brian

My 1st trip down we went to Jaco and used a guy named Chilli Willi..he is a Tico that runs a shuttle service...maybe someone on the site knows him or his number...He is a great guy that will give you a guided tour as you go to Jaco. I went with a vendor and they paid, but I will try to hunt down the number for you....

I cannot take the airport shuttle.

Here is why:

I am flying in a day earlier then my buddy. I bought my tickets and at the last minute he had a family thing come up for the departure day, so he booked his departure for the day after.

Ou plan was to head to Jaco first, then come back to SJ and leave for home from SJ. Total of about 9 days

But now I will be in CR one day earlier, so I booked a room at the amistad for one night. My buddy will be taking a bus or airport shuttle from the airport to Jaco direct. I will be leaving for Jaco from Amistad. I really do not feel like walking around town to the bus stops with all my luggage dragging behind me. I will probably take a shuttle back from Jaco. But going there, it just seemed eaier getting a pick up from a taxi right at Amistad and taking me directly to Jaco.

Do I just call or hail any Taxi? Do I ask the hotel to call me one? Which is the better option. I know in alot of countries there are licensed taxis and gypsy taxis. Which would be safer and less expensive.

Plus for that first, one night in SJ, where should I go? I will be flying solo, so I assume closer to the hotel the better. I would love to play some hold em. Have a nice dinner and mayeb retire with a nice Tica. I will be back in SJ in 4 days, but why waste the first night?

Your best bet is to hire a local driver rather then just hailing a cab. Most hotels have drivers they can recommend and also check out this sticky:

https://costaricaticas.com/phpBB2/vi ... php?t=8340

Interbus will pick you up at the Amistad so you do not need to concern yourself about going to a bus stop with your luggage. Also check with the hotel about storing your excess luggage until your return. most will do that.

I will be there on the 30th and staying one night before leaving for jaco on the 31st

Most guys have said the average price is 60-100 each way by private car.

is that the price for the car(me and my buddy?) or is there an additional charge per person?
I am trying to figure out the cost difference between a car and a shuttle or bus.

A shuttle leave from some place called the frog something for 180 roundtrip for both of us. '
But I would have to drag my bags with me to the spot.

The shuttle should come right to your hotel.Interbus does. If not you could take a quick taxi ride to the Holiday Inn where for sure Interbus picks up. It is a very comfortable ride for less than $20.

Most private drivers charge for the trip not the number of passengers. Just make sure you and the driver are in agreement as to the total charge.

What service quoted you that price? I just checked Interbuses web site. They will pick you up at the Castillo or other hotel for $25.00 per person to Jaco. That includes one checked bag one carry on. $10.00 additional for a second check bag.

OK, how do I arrange it?

Do I have my buddy take a Taxi from the airport to meet me at the amistad?

Then we both take the interbus?

He can be at the amistad by 12-1pm on the 31st

what is the interbus schedule? Is there a website or can the amistad staff assist me?

Oh yeah, maybe I will put this in a seperate post. But are any of you guys going to be in Jaco the first week of sept??? and if so, anyone interested in fishing??? It seems the more people per boat, the less the individual costs. let me know. We are looking for 1-2 extras to come along and differ the costs. Let me know.

Interbus website:

www.interbusonline.com

I believe you have to register but it is free and I have never received any spam from them.

You must book it 48 hours in advance so you can not wait until you get to the Amistad. The way they calculate the 48 hours is a little strange. It is Monday at 10:00 AM in Costa Rica. If you tried to book for Wednesday afternoon you could not. They will not accept any booking earlier than Thursday so you have to careful with that little quirk. The web site will give you the time they depart for Jaco. I believe they have 3 trips a day. When you pick which trip and punch in your hotel they will give you the pick up time. Good luck.

If your buddy is staying at La Amistad have the front desk make the reservation call for you. The hotels do this all the time. I have traveled around using interbus and grayline many times. Never had a problem with either and it is the quickest way from point A to B in the country.

Having the hotel make the reservation a day ahead of time should be no problem. They get their cut out of the deal so they will make sure you get picked up.
