Had some time on my way out last trip, went to Denny's near the airport, had the steak and eggs and was pleasantly surprised! A little pricy around $20 but it was best I have had in C R for a long time

$20.00 for steak and eggs at Denny's? That's insane

There are any number of Argentinian steak houses around where you can get a complete dinner, with great tasting beef, for that price.

I have to change my opinion on Esquina de Buenos Aires. I used to love the place, but the last 2 times the tenderloin (lomito) was the typical CR car tire. I don't know if they are trying to make more $ by using the local shit or what, but I don't know if they will get any more of my money.

Cafe Mundo has one of the best Filets I have ever tried. For 8 mil you get 2 nice pieces of steak, potatos, and stir fry vegies. I ate the filet on Friday for lunch and on Saturday night for supper and wish I was still there I would eat it again tonight. :D

There is a new Steak House opening next week next to Dos Grings.

It's on the side street going down the hill diagonally accross from the Morazon

I understand that
a.) tastes are subjective and
b.) U.S. travelers tend to want to visit foreign countries, but only if they're similar in most respects to the U.S.A. I suspect that most of us wish that C.R. was like San Diego, but with cheap hookers.

Guys come to C.R. insisting on drinking American beer and booze. They want CNN on their TV screens. They want U.S.-compatible connectivity. In short, they want the U.S. but with prostitution.

I cannot sympathize with any of these attitudes. I travel for a different experience than I can find in Anytown U.S.A.

Yes, C.R. beef has a different texture and flavor because a.) it is mostly forage-fed (grazed) versus corn/hormone fed, like U.S. beef. Furthermore, as C.R. is in the tropics, cool dry-aging is not possible, therefore the beef if aged at all is aged differently than what we find here. So what? Alter your taste buds a little, boys. It's part of the experience.

I have eaten all kinds of C.R. beef and found it to be quite tasty, but certainly different. I also prefer to Phuck the local women rather than find an expatriate Gringa.

IMHO, demanding American-flavor steak in C.R. is like demanding sex with a gringa in C.R. Why??

Concensus here is that if you do find USDA Choice, aged beefsteak,it will cost as much as a del Rey colombiana. Screw it, I'll eat the cheaper lomito or fillet cut at a local restaurant, and spend the difference on a bottle of local rum and a chica. :D

The steak place that will open when the Tico workers get off vacation is next to 7th Street Books and was formerly, "Cafe Rio". It is supposed to have the steaks from Don Fernando, which has two restaurants, one is Escazu and the other in San Pedro.

Don Fernando's beef is local Brahma, but they raise their own and lot feed it.

The owner of Cafe Rio said he stopped eating beef here until he ate at Don's. Now he eats there 4 times a week, and described the steaks as, "cuttable with a butter knife."
