I stayed 2 night at Hotel Morazon in Jan 2008, (yes I know it is now July 2008, but better late than never). Anyway, if its the first time you are going to the Gulch its an awesome location. There is a casino, bar, and restaurant down stairs, which is cool so when you arrive you can immediatly get some food and beer. Del Ray is a short 1 minute walk away. I know there are other places close to it to but I cannot remember.
Now, I stayed in the cheapest room they had, I think I ended paying $100+tax for 2 nights. The room was okay, there was a safe which is extra. It had 2 double beds. Room and Maid Service. It did smell like smoke when I first got in there but after I opened the window, 15 min later it was fine. It did have a AC unit which was nice, even with the window open it still got really cool. The shower wasnt great, but it worked and there was at least warm water. All in all I felt pretty safe. Remember to TIP the maid. Food was pretty good. I did not play at the casino but it looked pretty busy, also they have a cash exchange desk in the casino which is nice. Bar was cool, Pretty much all the staff was nice too, they dont seem shady or anything.
Anyway for a first time visit its a good hotel, I would suggest requesting a room on the top floors, casino can be loud at night. I did not see any other room but, if you are picky about your room you may want to wait on making a reservation, and wait until you get there and check out the room before you check in.

Morazon changes : The casino has expanded where the restaurant was and the restaurant has moved where the sports book was on the second floor. John the sports book guy has been pushed into the back corner and now has room 201 with a small betting window in the rear corner of the restaurant. If you want to cash money I recommend walking next door to the bank. The morazan last week was giving 50,500 for $ 100 while the bank was giving 51,600 or something like a$ 2.00 or 2 % difference. The rates have gone up a few dollars but includes a breakfast. The place is generally full so reserve early.

You got ripped off, those are $35/night rooms (maybe $40 during the high season).

If you pay cash, some places don't even charge tax.

Morazan WAS $35.00 weekday, $40.00 weekend both plus tax. They have increased the price to $45.00 plus tax and now include breakfast.. They charge the tax both with CC & cash.

I just show up and ask for the $35 room with Tico Times coupon in hand. Rarely a problem. From what I've read, confirmation at the Morazon is without value.

The Morazan is what it is but if they would remodel that dump and hire some qualified management it could be the best monger hotel in the gulch. This would be prime time to do it and they could double the room rates.
